im having to get rid of my Pride and Joy my Disco 200tdi. she is starting to give up on me and the expenses are getting too much to keep her going. Also she should not have made it through last years MOT and this year defo wont. So im on the hunt for a new one. not sure what to go for yet but i have about £3000 to play with will prob go down the disco route again looking for a decent 300/td5/v8lpg disco 1. This will be a road car with some stuff done to her and for off roading now my mate has been really decent and we are getting his bobtail range rover back up and running 50/50 project

and then using bits off of my disco on the bobtail ie the great engine and gearbox under there.

so keep your eyes peeled peeps.

Also can someone tell me what v8 lpg is like for someone as a daily runner doing mainly motorway miles just so i can get an idea. ;) found a nice 50th anniversary :p

Get a good 300 not a TD5. TD5's are not great.

What's wrong with the current 300 though? Surly some welding, even paid for wouldn't cost much compared to a new vehicle...

its just got to the stage where its getting holes in it faster than i can get her welded. Also its now monthly basis something is giving up and im having to fix her up. the cost is mounting up more and more and each repair is getting more and more expensive. She is my daily drive so i cant have her off the road apart from weekends then come monday i need her again for work. all it will take is for another big repair job needed and it takes longer than a weekend.

Really not a td5 i though they were meant to be a decent engine with a decent amount of power. Still waiting on peoples opinion on v8 lpg as a daily drive with motorway miles. i roughly drive 30miles travelling to and from work

Nothing wrong with a TeeDee5 to be honest, i have one, all be it a fender(proper land rover) not a disco :p Mine has bags of torgue and continuous power, ive driven 300's with tweaked fuel pumps, but there not close to a TD5. ;)

The only thing i would say is, if you dont keep on top of things with a TD5 then they will cost you more to repair and replace. I thought they were very vulnerable with there being an ECU and getting it wet etc but its actually a fairy easy task to waterproof an ECU and the important relays on a TD5.

On the disco you have to watch out for the 3 amigos, watch for oil in the injector harness and look for the hub assembly's to be done on the ABS versions(can you get a TD5 disco without ABS, TC etc?) because if they need sorting there £200 a piece!

I have given similar thoughts to getting rid of my defender for a hi cap, but what keeps dragging me back to reality is that i know whats what in mine, i know what ive changed and i know what i have repaired and what ive installed.

Sometimes its "better the devil you know"

mine used to be my daily for 2 years as well.

If you have a decent 300 id keep it and fix it. or use the money and get a cheap run around if you can afford to.
