Hi all
I posted a couple of months ago regarding a lack of power from my wife's TD4 when pulling away & on hills. A diagnostic check reported no faults!! Armed with infor from you guys, I asked the mechanic to check the air flow meter out; result - one new meter fitted & it went like a sports car (comparitevely!). I now realise the meter was faulty when my wife bought the blo**dy car 2 years ago as it's never gone so well!
It's been running fine but then last week I noticed that thick black smoke will occasionally belch from the exhaust, accompanied by a slight drop off in power; almost like lifting off the accelerator slightly. This happens when cruising at a constant speed but the smoke is also bad when accelerating. What's happened now? has the new air meter thrown a wobbly or has the thing developed yet another fault? I have rather a lack of confidence in the local specialists as I find it hard to understand why they should need prompts from the customer when the diagnostics don't tell them what's wrong. My wallet hasn't yet recovered fromt the bills for the new air meter & 2 new fuel pumps I've had to have fitted since February; is there no end to the expense with these things?
