Hi everyone I know there are a few posts on this but just need to ask anyway.

Have lots of black smoke coming out of the TD4 (2005 facelift model), now I know it's usually the turbo that causes this but it wasn't doing this before I refurbed the injectors and replaced the the glow plugs.

Was hoping it was just a bit of gunk that was being burned off because the injectors were running better. But it seems to be getting worse and car is starting to feel like it's losing some power. Smoke doesn't smell oily or diesely more like when your cleaning out the open fire chimney in your house!

I've got that at the moment. Been waiting for warmer weather to look at it. like you I did the injectors (although replaced) plus I also did the high pressure fuel pump. That cured the excessive grey smoke I was getting (and fuel in the sump) but when I put it back together I was getting these puffs of black smoke on acceleration. Not there when driving without acceleration.SO obviously excess fuel being dumped. I'm wondering if it is a hole in a boost hose I can't find. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think even a pin hole in one of the hoses can cause this excess fuel in the mix.

Did you use new O rings and copper washers on injectors?

Have you got injector clamps on the right way up? Easy mistake and they lift if wrong.

Yeah replace them when installing and made double sure everything was in perfect before putting everything back together.

But just to make sure I'll have a look tomorrow to make double double sure 😃

Checked hoses and all seem to be fine, no splits or holes. Disconnected the MAF and still seem to be a lot of smoke. Gonna leave it off today while I go out and see if it clears up any.

Here's the after-MAF (sorry had too 😁)

Also see pic for the "soot" left on the ground!

So had a drive with the MAF unplugged and there's is about 90% less smoke, just a puff of black smoke under heavy load. So guessing the MAF is kaput!

Suppose it is possible that knackered injectors and a duff MAF may have been happy together and then making them injectors good upset things??

How is power, with and without MAF connected??

Is that really a possibility?Genuine question, since I have not looked at the MAF since replacing injectors, and the black smoke is only since doing them.

some maf sensors fail and 'over fuel' .. evidently rare but does occur.
most fail and under fuel ..
.
