need4wd....
use the search and look for "buying guide" etc. quite a few threads on what to look out for etc.
They are cars/vehicles/4x4 or whatever you want to call them that do need a bit more looking after than your average ford or vauxhall, well there is more to wrong for starters!!
It is a bit of a bear pit here.... have a look in 'anything goes' bit of the wild west....

Lastly, don't feed the animals unless you want your hand/head/arse bitten off.....

If you want a reliable 'car' do not buy any of the vehicles made by land rover.

If you want to avoid being told some home truths then bugger off to headinthesand.com

Did I say I was looking for a reliability reference for a Discovery? Do you know anything about me? Do you have any idea of my level of technical knowledge, my experience of "cars"? No you don't. I was asking advice from owners because I don't believe these "cars" can possibly be as bad as some people say. An awful lot of posts on forums are from people with problems so I was looking for the positive side of Discovery ownership.

I've been on countless forums but never one as purile and petty as this. So maybe I'll buy a Discovery or maybe I'll buy a Land Cruiser or what ever. You bunch will never know.

Do I need this ****? No.

I'm totally with you there mate. I have recently joined the forum, after getting a Disco, and encountering a few problems where I needed some advice. I did loads of searching, but sometimes it just doesn't cover the problem specifically.

Some of the long term members with a million posts under their belt, really do let the forum down by just starting confrontations with newer members, who are only looking for help. Just because they might stray from forum etiquette a little, they get jumped on and given the f**k off tablet. Because of all the crap that gets banded about, is probably a lot to do with why its so hard to find stuff amongst all the bulls**t in the first place. Like you, I've been on loads of 4x4/car/bike forums, and this one can be a bit unfriendly to newcomers at times.

That said, I have gained some very valuable information from here, and I am very grateful for that. It just pays not to get sucked into the politics (which I have just done!!). As for the Disco itself, its pros and cons.......I would honestly say Jap stuff is slightly better engineered after owning and working on all of my vehicles, but parts are plentiful and cheap, unlike most Jap motors.

I await my lynching.........

so what part of f**k off to the wife swapping lro site do you not understand ? Don't come on here crying like a child about bad language or the way people behave. We all know each other and have helped more people than you have made postings.......I await your suitably intellegent reply.
