2002 Dsci been losing power gradually
Now needs low box for steep hills
Local mechanic Says that it is normal but it cant be as I have just driven another
Put filter ect on no differant
You can squeeze intercooler pipes even when under load
Have checked Wastegate and that is free

Any ideas what it can be ( hav ealos had intercooler pipes off to check for internal collapse )

Where do I go next ( on Ebay spares or reapir !! ) and I will buy another Toyota

Has it had fuel filt changed regular, i trust you dont run the tank down to fumes b4 fill up.
Its a very sensitve fuel system and wont tollerate any crap in it, so its probably to late changeing filtre now, if its not been done regular b4.
Hope it turns out simple, they can be ****s.

I have changed Filter it made no Differance

It has been getting worse over a period of time ( it has never done mor ethan 70mph since I bought it in July but I thought this was normal )
It seems to me there is no pressur ein intercooler pipes
This pointed away from fuel but to be honest dont really know

you realy need to get it pluged in to see what fault codes are loged it only costs about £30 and could save you loads just guessing post where abouts you live and some one local may have a nannocom local who can help

"low box to go up steep hills". somethings not right with the fueling or turbo. I live on a 1 in 7 hill and have only had to use low box to tow a 7.5T truck up it. I have a Nanocom, and i'm based just out side Matlock, derbys if thats any use

I think it could be head gasket but would like an opinion
It does use a bit of Water
Will not Rev out properly now and is Black Smoking
Could it be not enough pressure in Exaust so Turbo not spinning high enough RPM so not forcing enough air through

I did burst a hose on motorway a couple of months ago and it got hot
I thoght it was ok but perhaps this was the start of problem

I have been advised that if Heads go they are scrap on TD5
The vehicle is a 2002 Van do you think its worth repairing or should I cut my losses

Black smoke is an air leak, white smoke is water and blue is oil.

Check all hoses are on correct even the feed pipe onto the turbo.

A loose or disconected pipe will cause power lose and black smoke as it upsets fuelling as there is no pressure from the turbo.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that it is definatlly Black Smoke

There is no pressure in the intercooler pipes and I am sure there is an air problem whatever else may be wrong
I hav echecked all pipes and ther eis no collapse or leak so I am baffle dto say the least
Going to trailer it into an independant deale rin the morning ( behind a 15 Year old Landcruiser ! which it was meant to replace )

Hi Carl2351,
It sounds as if we have similar probs. Mine started playing up a few days ago, pulled up at roundabout, noticed a bit of smoke behind me, then tried to pull away, but no power and engine just ticking over.
After about 10 mins, it revved fine, and I managed to get a few more miles closer to home, but then failed and had to be towed by a Mitsubishi!!!!
I wondered about the fuel that I had put in that morning, so have changed the fuel filter today, and took it out for a spin, and it went like a dream.............but after a stretch along a dual carriageway, pulled up at an island, and guess what, the bl**dy thing failed again!
This time i was towed back by the brother-in-law with his Focus!!!

I'm getting mine plugged in next week at local independant LR gaff (MM4X4)

Paul
