HI ALL .****ED OFF HAVE HAD SPLIT FUEL LINE ON TOP OF TANK ,FUEL REGULATOR VALVE ON ENGINE GONE & NOW HAVE JUST GONE TO CHANGE FILTER AND FUEL WATER SENSOR THREAD HAS STRIPPED .SICK OF THE SMELL OF DIESEL & £££ CAN I RUN WITH OUT ? WILL IT MESS UP ENGINE MANEGMENT NOT ALL DISCOS HAVE EM .WHAT TO DO WITH LOOSE WATER SENSOR . Thanks Dave TD5 DISCO 03:mad::eek:
 
You can fit the plastic plug that the fuel filter had when you bought it (I assume), disconnect and dispose of the sensor itself and tie up the water sensor wiring out of the way with a cable tie. It wont upset engine management - the only thing it does is light the light on the dash if the contacts within the sensor are shorted out by water.

But to be honest, a new sensor is not that expensive (on ebay) and the easiest thing to fit.

Sure, there are plenty of ways to bodge things, but personally I get satisfaction from doing things right.

The water trap sensors play up for a past time. I'd get shot of it.
It's worth carrying a spare plastic drain plug and/or a bolt that fits the threads. Stripped threads on the fuel filter are common.


Rescue tape is great for emergency split/chafed fuel hose repairs too.
