My friend poped over today with his 51 plate Discovery Breamar and on close inspection I noticed that the bottom of the rear quarter panel is flapping about at the bottom. The lower section of the inner wheel arch liner is rotten! I my mind this is still a relitivly newish car, surface rust to me is acceptable but to be rotten right through; it is a worry. He has had this car from new £32k and has never had it off road. Has any one else suffered this on a simalar car?

I think thats exceptional. I had plenty of time to discuss with guys at Rustmaster when i was there and they say the MK2s are a bit better than the MK1's but that rust holes on the rear chassis is not unheard of. No mention of an example that bad. Mind you we've had 3 years of heavy salt on the road and Braemar must have a very salty climate I guess...

We sure have had plenty of salt on our roads up here but strange thing is the nearside is perfect. I would have said the corrosion was down to a previous owners poor body repair but he has had it from new and hasn't even put a scratch on it, I don't fancy getting the welder out to such a nice looking car, oh well.

It could have been damaged and repaired at the factory or at a dealers - it wouldnt be sold as that tho....

The D2 is not in the same league as the D1 with regards body rust !.

As has been said, probably due to a poor repair in thr past, or perhaps one of the sealing robots at the factory ran out of sealer on that panel and the dozy operator didnt see it !

That level of corrosion is not normal on the D2.

That's not good for a 51 plate, my x plate has surface rust well i did have. Tis now waxoiled and all inner wings wax oiled. But if the disco has not had any protection that's 10 years of salt attacking it

Shaun...did u end up doin Waxoil yourself ??

The first owner could have used it to launch his boat.

How do you know he had a boat?:D

Yeah, what a messy job it went everywhere. Was more on me than on landy, main areas I did was inner wings, was a nightmare doing chassis but got most of it covered, better than none I guess

First time i done mine i was covered. Done it again a couple months back and got hardly a drop on me. Must be learnin in ma old age.
