Owned an 06 3 door Freelander TD4 for 6 months after a Mitsy Pinin was hemorrhaging cash. Love it. All good, however, from cold the engine starts first time (9/10 times). If I stop outside a shop, and switch off for 5 mins, it will start again first time. If I have switched off for 30-90 mins, it will always start first time, but cut out/stall after 3 seconds. The throttle in this time is unresponsive. It will then start perfectly on the second go. Please help as I don't want to spend loads on something the mechanic cant find if this is a common fault. Thanks

hard to start .. warm engine .. is often a fault with the cam sensor [easy to replace ] ..
although .. the cam sensor is only used on startup a.f.a.i.k.
you might want to check the fuel-rail sensor plug/socket for corrosion .. give it a good clean [ common issue ]
if it's a m.a.f. [airflow sensor] issue .. that can be checked by disconnecting the plug n' see how it behaves ..

might be an idea to get it checked for 'fault codes' .. [ obd scanner ]

howzit drive once it gets started ?

Thanks for your advice... removed and cleaned the 3 clip sensors: cam, fuel-rail and MAF, no joy! Still the same warm engine stall.
Runs fine once started, its a little (say 80% power) sluggish for the first 50 yards, but thereafter its great. I changed the fuel filter and rear fuel pump in January as a matter of course, so I've ruled that out

I'd put a diagnostic device on it and monitor the live data from the sensors, to see if anything is a miss which coincides with the running issue.
It could well be something to do with the low pressure fuel pump, not delivering full pressure until it's run for a bit, but the live data read will give all this information.

And therein lies another problem... my friend has an OBD2, but it wont recognise/pick up my vehicle!! :)

Try another OBD2 device, as it is an OBD2 compliant vehicle. I used my phone and a generic LM327 BT interface to connected to my 05 SE EDC no problems.

Thanks for all advice, went to local Landy specialist (who doesn't charge LR prices!) after no home luck... apparently injector number 4 has internal leak... hopefully that'll be done next week!!!

apparently injector number 4 has internal leak..
that would certainly do it .. [ cut out 'n stall ]
i did read somewhere that a faulty injector can show up / cause issues .. when warm
but behave fine when cold ..

good luck with it :)
