Hi All,

Sorry to be a pain!! I've searched for the answer to this but can't find one.

Does anybody know the size of the hex or AF for the drain plug on the manual gear box on my TD4 and is it the same size for the filler/level plug.

Thanks all

Filler and drain plugs are the same size, it's either 7 or 8mm, I can't remember exactly. Try and undo the filler first.

Thanks for that. I found an 8mm hex socket and it fitted yeah!!. I've changed the diff oil, the IRD oil, and the engine oil, this afternoon, I'll do the gear box tomorrow. It's a bit tight in there to do the gear box, any suggestions to make life a little easier.

Cheers

Jack up the front near side and remove the wheel, then lover the car on the jack until its level again. Then use a length of hose pipe attached to a funnel. I threaded mine from the outside, over the top of the disc and into the filler plug. I used 4 axel stands when I don't mine, so I would advise you to use something to support the car incase the jack gives way.

Ok thanks for that, that sounds a good idea. The car is over my pit at the moment which makes life a bit easier.

I've also got a 500mm syring (like in link below) which I used to empty and fill the diff.

That's handy! The gearbox takes 1.67litres, so stick 3 full ones in, then top up to overflow.

Thanks for the info, I've got 2L of oil so pleanty of oil. I think what I'll do is move the car tomorrow so it's right on the edge of the pit with the pump I should be able to get the tube in and pump it up. I'll make sure I can undo the fill/level plug before I drain it. Thanks
