hi

had about half a dozen emails concerning cruise control and thought it easier to write it on here

don't belive everything the dealer tells u that it can't be done

if u do a search on here there is a full description of what's required

but as a quick and General recap

u will need a master on , off switch
steering wheel paddle control for cruise control

a cruise control ecu which sits underneath the drivers seat , buy a second hand one as it will be preprogrammed and won't need it to be activated by test book so is a plug and play

most importantly before doing anything, ensure the small black plug is underneath the drivers seat, there is a small slit in the carpet and there should be a small plug that goes into the ecu, if it's not there then u can't retrofit the cruise control

on the dash board there is a blank, if u pull it out there should be wires attached

this is for an auto only

hope that helps and there are several posts on here that goes into this with greater detail

nice write up gstuart
this may help
this is what the plug under the drivers seat looks like (face lift model)

I've done mine and the result is weird, instead of the warning light coming on after switching the main switch nothing happens. However if you operate the res switch the light comes on. You can then set the speed using the set switch. You can use the res switch or brake to cancel it however operating the res switch again switches cruise off not resuming. To get it to operate again you must toggle the main switch.

Has anyone else experienced this. I fitted a second cruise control ECU but the result is the same.

did u fit a second hand cruise control ecu it's all plug and play and won't need it plugging into a testbook

mine operates I think the same way ur describing it , haven't used it for abit so would have to sit in the car and go through it

see what the other guys say and see if it's the same

Your engine ECU needs coding to reflect cruise control is fitted and then the functionality will be as the owner's handbook then

did u buy a new cruise control ecu, on,y reason I ask is when I first looked i to all of this , I bought a second hand one and was just a question of plugging it all in and worked

the system automatically recognised that the cruise control was there and turned it on

would have to sit in the car and write the sequence down again, terrible memory , lol

mine is the same but it does not bother me it works perfect I just take my foot off the go gas to switch it of with the res switch.

It's nothing to do with the cruise ecu - it's the engine management ecu which controls the cruise system and it need configuring to alter the settings inside to operate as per the handbook

may I ask what does the cruise control ecu do plse

when I went into this in great detail I found out that if u bought a new cruise control ecu it required being plugged into a testbook which would just tell the engine ecu that cruise control is now fitted

if by fitting a second hand one u only needed to plug it in and the car would automatically see it was there and the cruise control would work

Cruise control ecu converts the switches into a signal the engine ecu can interpret and use on a Td4

I had a very long conversation with a Land Rover guy who couldn't believe I just plugged it all in and it worked by using a second hand cruise ecu

he plugged it into a testbook at the dealer out of curiosity and he said all it had was to activate it or not and there were no other adjustments possible

he said its the same with plugging in a new ecu, the test book just turns it on

have u got a testbook , unless the Land Rover guy didn't know how to use it

u don't happen to have a testbook manual do u please and possibly take a pic of the page

the dealer said it was impossible to fit as a plug and play system

thks mate

I have a Testbook and know how to use it pretty well :)

The option to enable cruise and alter the setting is under 'vehicle configuration' and 'LCS configuration'

I don't have a screen shot but well try and grab one next time I hook up to my car
