So done everything possible now apart from replacing my maf but would say the old girl is flying but just to be sure everything possible is on tap was considering a new maf as it has done 93k. However it's set on 2 and is running better with the maf set to ON than OFF but worse if I go to 7. This in my view indicates that the sensor is not totally worn out but if I use a Pierburg one then I would need to run it on 7 if I recall.
So is a new Pierburg unit better or worse than a slightly worn Bosh unit. Or do I nip down Europarts and bite the bullet for a bosch one even though I don't know if it will perform any better than what I already have.

Has there ever been a pole to see 40-70 times in 5th with a TD4 to compare if there is anymore to be had?

time below are my findings of the synergy2a+ tuning box for my 2004 td4 manual you can make you own mindes up hope it helps

synergy off maf off 30mph to 60mph in 4th 14 secs
box fitted in eco mode ie green light on from 30mph to 60mph in 4th 13 secs.
box fitted in eco2 mode ie middle setting no light 30mph to 60 mph in 4th 12 sec
on setting 3 on box in 4th 30mph to 60mph 11 secs
on setting 4 on box in 4th 30mph to 60mph 9.5 secs
on setting 5 on box in 4th 30mph to 60mph 8 secs

and its a lots smother and more positive in response

i had a full tank of full brimed and 3 adults in car if this info helps anyone there it is.
egr bypass fitted new air filter and bmw crank breather done tyers 30 psi .

first impresions are good much smother and more power through the rev even in eco mode so next test will be mpg ill keep you informed

ok with a heavy right food iv managed 31.4 mpg thats driving hard alot lol ill do a eco one next week still playing ..
and just for me 0 to 60 in wet 10 secs setting 5

Bought a new Pierburg MAF with my Synergy 2A and now use setting 7. The correct settings for the original Bosch MAF is 1 to 5 and the Pierburg 6 to 10, Rover Ron also advises that if you have the EGR bypass with the Pierburg MAF then setting 5 can also be used.

Hello Greg
Rover Ron advises that 100,000 miles is all you can expect from the original Bosch MAF, mine had covered over this and I was unable to achieve more than 30 mpg and I was also getting hesitation on low revs when accelerating. The hesitation has now cleared but still have to see if the fuel consumption has improved.

Maybe what I really need to know is if a new Bosch Maf will give better results than a new Pierburg Maf, understandably it probably needs changing but which is best regardless of price or lifespan.

As I understand it the Pierburg MAF is considerably cheaper than the Bosch OE but needs the Synergy fitted as it's not suitable for the TD4 without. Rover Ron's website is a good place to look if you need more detailed advice or you can give him a ring.

That's an interesting question which no-one has brought up before.

I didn't occur to me when I got a Synergy2 and the Pierburg MAF from Ron - (my original MAF was highly suspect after 84K)

I now have improved fuel consumption and much more power.

Whether a new Bosch MAF which is much more expensive would be any better than what I have now is doubtful - I certainly don't think it would be cost effective.

Check with RoverRon - I think only he would be able to give you a comprehensive, honest answer.

Singvogel.

Thought I would put my times up to see if comparable.
I did 4 different timings and have done a few bits so here goes.
My timings are starting from a steady start speed and putting foot down until reach end speed. Rather than accelerating through the start speed.

Therefore the turbo is at rest, so mine will be slower if you are allready accelerating.
0 to 60 times are reving upto 3500 rpm before gear change

Before any mods
50 to 70 in 5th - 19.5
30 to 50 in 4th - 13.3
40 to 60 in 4th - 13.3
0 to 60 - 19.7

Right some colours to help me here and an explanation of what they mean.
Not done all same tests under all stages of the mods - but it gives you an idea.
All the following with Synergy 2a
Purple - EGR working as normal
Green - EGR disabled by pulling off the vaccume pipe.
Red - EGR bypass and cleaned out the gunk from air manifold
Some tests repeated and time does vary a bit.
Red 0 to 60 times are taken when I could only do a medium rev start. If I let the clutch out with lots of revs the clutch would slip like mad when I

put it into 3rd and 4th.

I use it in setting 10. This give much better response at low speeds and pulling out of junctions. Also top end grunt to get past cars.

Some smoke when push hard. Could this knacker my CAT up???

Trying setting 7 today after nickcc warning about injectors. Still ok to pull up hill on way to work but not as responsive from tick-over/low revs. (Have Piersburg MAF)
Does anyone know if the manual or the label is correct about the settings as they disagree with each other.
eg. for setting 7 manual says MED MED. But sticker says LOW HI

Thanks angeloc. Might try that setting next.
The label on mine for setting 8 says MED MED - but the user instructions show it to be HI MED. Full list below with bracket showing where Synergy label is different - brackets is synergy label. No brackets is user instructions.
Switch no MAF Boost "Torque &Throttle reponse" Power
1 LOW LOW MED
2 LOW MED(LOW) MED (HI)
3 LOW HI (MED) MED
4 LOW MED HIGH
5 LOW HI HIGH
6 MED LOW MED
7 MED MED(LOW) MED (HI)
8 MED HI (MED) MED
9 MED MED HIGH
10 MED HI HIGH
