Hi,

So this week I installed one of the Android 9inch Screen Head Unit into my Freelander 2 TD4. I initially had issues as I wasn't getting any power into the unit itself. I eventually connected a cable, that came with it, to the cigar lighter socket which solved that problem. Now the other issue is, I haven't got power in the original radio unit, so unable to change the time on the Odometer.

Any one fitted one of these before, and any suggestions. It's not the end of the world, as the android unit works, but I'd like to know if there is a way to go about it.

Thanks,
Max

As you have a base model HU, you'll only loose the clock on the dash if the original HU it's seen on the LIN bus. There's not even any reverse sensors to upset.

If you'd have had the amplifier, you'd have been in a world of pain, as you'd have no sound at all.

What is the LIN bus?

So is it unlikely the clock would ever work with the android HU?

I must be one of the few with the base model! I don’t even have steering wheel controls. I’ve been considering upgrading the steering wheel. Worth doing or not worth the risk?

The LIN is Local Interconnect Network, it's a low speed data bus used by low priority data between supplementary systems like locks, mirror control, clock data, parking control, audio controls and the like.

Unfortunately if the original HU isn't functioning, then the time data won't be available on the LIN bus, so the clock or other time based items won't function. A generic Android HU won't output LIN data.

You can upgrade the steering wheel to leather, which makes the vehicle feel much nicer to drive. However as the steering wheel audio controls use the LIN bus to communicate with the audio system, the Android HU wouldn't be able to use that functionality.
