Hi all,
Hoping to get some advice on removing the steering wheel from my 94 soft dash - no airbag.
I don't want to break the horn push in the centre of the wheel but I guess it has to come off. It doesnt seem to want to let go and I don't want to break it. Any advice?
David

Long story.
But in short, I think a PO has fitted it wrongly as the indicators do not self cancel properly and I am also fitting a new steering box that is supplied with a flat on the splined input shaft rather a groove as my removed unit had.
This means the steering column/UJs can only go on one way and that way leaves the steering wheel 90 degrees out.
Hence I want to reposition the wheel, thus hopefully fixing the indicator cancelling.

On my RRC (hard dash diff steering wheel) the steering wheel only goes on in one position, so to straighten it means adjusting drag link length

Now I'm trawling the memory but a couple of small screwdrivers working around the centre boss releases it to gain access to the wheel nut. Remember to slacken the nut a couple of turns but leave it on,you can then pull the wheel ,hands 180 degrees on the wheel and loosen it from the taper without getting a mouth full of steering wheel.;)

Thanks all for your input,

I have to admit to wimping out on removing the steering wheel!. I have removed the steering coloum to intermediate shaft UJ and thankfully that has a groved spline end rather than a single flat so it means I can set the steering wheel in the centre position using that, with fine adjustment being done on the steering rod length adjuster (ball joints).

While there, I also checked the cancelling of the indicators. It seems that both left and right indicators cancel when the steering wheel is 180 deg (6 O'clock) from straight ahead which seems starnge to me. I thought they should cancel at 10 and 2 o'clock positions. But I will just live with it got now.

Thanks
David
