As you may know when you purchase an aftermarket steering wheel you need a 'boss' to fit it to the column.

There are two types of column (on a Defender) and two types of steering wheel.

The 48 or 36 spline column and the 100 (Mountney) or 70mm (sports/Momo) steering wheel.

Typically the Boss is 75mm tall and this (in my experience) places the steering wheel further away from the lights/indicator and windscreen wiper stalk. So far in fact that I couldn't reach the controls with my fingertips as before.

There are differences in the steering wheels themselves but as a rule, with a boss, they are all further away than the original. More in your stomach.

So....

To overcome this I designed a smaller (thinner) boss which fits either the 36 or 48 spline Sringalex boss and moves the steering wheel away from you (closer to the stalks) by 50mm. The initial design I have fits the 70mm 'sports' steering wheels.

Is anyone interested in buying one of these ?

I'd be interested in buying a 28 spline boss as per the requirement for my 300 Disco...
Apparently, NOBODY does them. (would happily be proved wrong) 2 days of ringing companies the length & breadth of the country went on to prove this...

Failing that, I'll have to sell the steering wheel & 36 spline boss I currently have sat in the garage!

Are you sure it's 28 spline and not 29 as used on rover 214's up until 1995? I was under the impression that they were 29 spline.

It may well be, as it is very easy to mis-count those splines with your finger nail...
Mark one of the splines, eg, with a bit of chalk, marker pen or something then count round them,

Still a pain in the arse to count them though,

I used to use a needle to count round them, sounds stupid but it works, just a matter of counting the amount of times the needle lifts.

I put a Mini steering wheel on my td5 as they are 48sp had to use a grinder with a sanding disc on to sand down some of the foam on the back so the shaft would reach the wheel, but looks excactly the same as a land rover sports wheel, 3 spoke

Here we have a Springalex boss for a mini linky for sale on eBay (item# 221021357910). The part I am wondering if there is any interest for will replace the top half of the part on the bottom right of the 'for sale' picture.

The black 'lunar lander' part unbolts and my 1/2 height adapter bolts on - simples.

ps
Why are we looking at Mini wheels ??? :)

It arrived today.... and it fitted!! Even retained my indicator cancel and steering lock function. Very pleased indeed.
