My 110 came with a sporty Momo steering wheel. I know most people do this the other way around but I want to replace it with an original Land Rover steering wheel.

The centre part of the Momo wheel is completely solidly wedged on the splines. There’s no movement. I bought a small two-arm puller but it doesn’t shift it at all. The arms pop off before there’s any impact.

My plan is to soak it in Plusgas and try again but I thought I’d also ask here to see if anyone has any tips or if I’m doing something stupid. There’s only one nut holding the wheel on, isn’t there?!

Also — is there a name for the washer that’s supposed to be under the nut? Mine doesn’t have one so I’d like to add one with the new wheel.

Thanks very much.

I should have said the first thing I did was take the small steering wheel off. I replaced it with the earlier 36 spline wheel. I have only recently got the correct one for a sensible price. My lock washer was also missing, still is !

Thanks. Yes this one must have not had a lock washer for a good few years and the nut was done up very tight. I’ve got a 36 spline wheel from eBay.

Bugger, a bit far away..
I got my old wheel off with a little heat ... send me a picture of the steering wheel I thought MoMo's were attached to a boss.
Thanks. Yes there is a boss with the wheel bolted onto it. I took the wheel off the boss at first but then put it back to try to help me pull it off. But that didn’t help!

I’ll add a picture tomorrow, it’s too dark now…

Mine had a boss with the steering wheel attached to that with little bolts, not Momo.
I undid the nut, bashed the wheel around a bit, pulled it a few times, bashed it a bit more and it came off.
Yes that sounds like the same design. Maybe mine just needs more bashing.

Bash it on one side then the other, repeat a few times. When you try pulling it leave the nut on a couple of turns, would be embarrassing if you knock your teeth out removing a steering wheel.
You can get a steering wheel puller which works well on your original type wheel.
Torque setting is less than what most people use, which seems to be FT.

Here’s a pic of the wheel. I think there’s nowhere you could get a three-bolt puller onto this unless it was a special one that attached to the Momo holes. I bought this puller but the arms slip off before the wheel moves on the splines.

No offence mate but that's a toy not a puller.

This is the sort of thing you need.

Take the plasctic shroud off your steering column and nip into your local garage, the mechanics will likely have one you could borrow for the 10 secs it would take to remove the boss.

None taken. Yes I know it’s a bit weedy!

Thanks — local garage is a good idea, I know someone I can ask. Why take the plastic shroud off, though? The puller needs to pull on the rim around the edge of the boss, doesn’t it?

Thanks again for the replies.

That's more like a cheap puller for stubborn wiper arms.
How about a metal bar underneath the steering wheel spoke, close to the boss, and whack it upwards.
Obviously you have undone the centre nut, looks done up in the photo.

So the hooks on the puller will go behind the boss. It all depends on how much room you have between boss and shrouds.

Depeds how close the bottom of the boss is to the plastic shroud.
It's only 4 screws and it come of as easy as .... when off there is loads of room to get the pu;ller on with a secure grip.
