Hi all I have a disco 2 td5, and it's started to struggle when starting I have to let the pump do a full purge before it will start... I have read a lot of threads regarding either the copper washers or the air bleed/ return valve near the fuel filter... Which could be the problem... I just wanted to know if anyone has had the same simptums if the fuel pressure regulator was leaking??? Mine is dripping prob every 30 secs but only seems to do it with the engine running... I didn't know weather this could cause the starting issue... I would be grateful of any ideas as I didn't want to do the washers if it could be the regulator..
Many thanks
Jay

I'm guessing that without the engine running, the pump's not running and the system isn't pressurised, therefore no leak.

A drip every 30 secs sounds serious to me and I'd think about changing the FPR anyway.... unless more knowledgeable peeps think different?

Leaking FPR is an MOT fail, not to mention a waste of diesel!
Mine leaked bad but I had no trouble starting it. Still needs doing though and it's a bitch of a job! (DIY, just fiddly)

If fuel can get out then air can get in, that would certainly account for it needing purging to start. Replace the fpr and see how you go.

Thanks for the replies, the fpr is a nightmare to change my last one leaked for ages and I didn't get any trouble starting... I don't know weather airs getting in or just the fuel is draining out!!!! Although today it was a pig to start and now the pump is whining constantly!!!! But would a faulty pump account for having to purge it to start it???

Youve got to stick to the " A, B,s and C,s ", and get the leaking FPR changed first. Then it sounds like your pump is on way out !.

Do you think a faulty pump would cause it to need purging, I know I've got three options but all are expensive copper washer, pump or fpr........question is which one
