I get a squeak/creak from the back of my freelander when I drive it to work in the morning, but I don't hear it when I drive home in the evening. I can only hear it when I go over rough or uneven roads. It sounds like it is coming from the rear window or rear door. Can anybody tell me what this is likely to be?

Thanks
Dave

Are you sure it isn't the cat that sleeps under the car at night and in the morning tries desperately to stay on the driveshaft ??;)

I've notice a simular problem with mine, is your a 3 dr hard top? i'm gonna investigate tomorrow what it is i have a feeling its just something simple like the rubber trim on the back...

its squeekin cos its an lr . . . . .if it were a slitty , it wood be sqaulin un spittin un fings. . . . . . .;)

Mine is a 5 Door hardtop. I think it is something to do with the rubber around the rear window or door. If you can track it down in yours please let me know.
Thnks

OK, this is zombie-post (aka: reviving a dead thread; but anyway...)
I randomly have the same problem and I've also figured out that it's the rubber around the rear window OR the triangle rubber around the rear door lock.

I've pinpointed this by pushing up and down the rear door while closed (it did it) and while it was wide open (it did not). I've yet to find a solution to the issue, but lube is one option. The other would be to change the rubber.

I had this a while back.

Clean all around the glass and the rubber on the door frame itself with meths.

Also tighten the door latch by a tiny amount - a millimetre or two will do.

You mean the bottom right latch yes?

I have noticed that the trapezoid rubber piece (down, on the right on the above pic) was a little loose. I have managed to stuck a thin piece of rubber on the right side of it the main piece, securing it into place. Now if I push against the closed door I don't hear any squeak(s).

I'll drive to work tomorrow and see if I got it fixed or not. :)

Your rear door needs to be tightened. To only way to do that is to slacken the 2 torx screws holding the staple (hoop part) and slide it inwards 2mm. Try it and if necessary a further 2mm at a time.

The rubber bit which you correctly describe as being trapezoidal in shape is designed to be a little loose to hold the door tightly. I would take out the piece of rubber you have jammed / stuck in.

The round part beside it should be free to rotate - it sometimes becomes stiff due to dust or mud sticking to any oil on the shaft.

Good luck.

Singvogel.

I took a short ride on the field today (not very rough - but did the trick). As Singvogel proposed it was the same. I therefore removed the extra rubber. I tried to unscrew the 2 screws but it wasn't possible so I may have to pay a visit to a friend's garage to tighten the door a bit.

@teddywood1: I thought about it too. I may just do it after the adjustment.

Foolishly forgot to thank you both for the help :)

Update 1: I have managed to solve the problem without adjusting the back door. I've visited a friend who figured out that the squeak came from the back locker due to light corrosion and/or dust. He proposed to use penetrating oil in the locker; which we did. Aside from that we sprayed all the latches etc. Now the squeak is gone.

Update 2: Adjustment done as proposed in the first place. After a trip in our field the problem got worse and I thought it was about time to stop fooling around and adjust the 2 screws by 2-3mm to the inside, thus force the door firmly close. Thanks again guys.
