Hi guys

done a search but still confused:confused: I have a 1999 TD5 Defender 90 do I need 10 0r 24 spline ARB Locker??? Cheers:)

Cheers mate. Does a front one effect the steering and how would you rate the increase in traction?
the steering goes as if you had no power steering is the easiest way to describe it.

with a front locker engaged you have to think about what your approaching you wouldnt want to try and engage it halfway round some tight bends.

with both lockers engaged its unbeliveable some of the hills i can tackle on almost just over tickover is unreal

a rear locker is always the way to go first,2 lockers is just showing off;):D:D

Thanks for that sounds fantastic. Do you have to be stopped to engage it. If you forget its on is it murderous on tarmac. sorry for all the questions but quite a bit of money and i want to get it right

yes its best to be stopped to engage

you would be silly to forget there on as the air compressor running would be a give away:D

any locker engaged on tarmac wouldnt be good

yes they are a lot of money but i think well worth it

I've never had lockers on any of my landys. I have however, researched them and in my opinion, the KAM is superior from an engineering perspective and that's what I'd buy if I could afford / justify it.
In saying that, Detroits probably offer the best value for money.

Bear in mind that you will be far more likely to break a half-shaft or drive flange!

Cheers maty always repect your opinion. Would it be best to uprate the halfshafts at the same time. Are they at risk no matter what locker you get?

i can only offer my opinion on something i have tried and tested, all the research in the world dont count as much as actually using the item in the real world

i would much prefer to break a half shaft than a diff any day,but that may be a bit unlikely as i have ashcroft halfshafts and ashcroft cvs..

the problem with uprating TS is the stress goes down the line. uprate your shafts, diff, props then your gearbox goes... you just have to try it and see.

G
like i said money dependant

some comp boys i know have lockers but standard shafts.they grind a small cut around the shaft at the wheel end so if they break a shaft in competetion its a lot easier to get out and change
