hi,
I've been offered a 53 reg,TD5 ,7 seater GS with 180000 on the clock.It has a years MOT on it and a new clutch fitted.They want £3150.
the mileage is huge compared with everything else I've owned, never owned a Disco,my question is,is it worth a punt?
thanks in advance
Dave

also, what spec would a GS have?

Seems a little expensive for the mileage, for that I'd be looking around 2750 tops unless it's exceptional condition.

Depends on weather it has been serviced regularly or used for towing a lot. Would also be looking to see that the timing chain would be done by now. If you were to buy it without this being done, I'd certainly have it done along with the water pump just to be sure.

If it runs well and drives well (test this yourself and remember to give the chassis a good poke to make sure there's no rust, I don't see why not...

Also, check rear air suspension if equipped....
And any dash lights can sometimes be...irritating on TD5's.

If you are thinking of buying, prior to parting with any cash get underneath it.
They are prone to chassis rust.

Regardless of having a years MOT, there are unscrupulous garages out there who might 'miss' a large hole in the chassis.

When I bought the project, the MOT had just expired, so it appears all the rust and holes appeared in the last year (my ar5e)

So my advice would be to check the chassis, not once, not twice but three times.
With a Disco II its the bits you cant see, the body work you can see always looks lovely but don't be fooled.

Did I mention, get underneath it.

thanks for that, just the sort of answer I needed. If I were to do the timing chain and pump, would that be a big job for an able home mechanic (me),any special tools needed?
thanks again

You have to remove the cylinder head to fit a new timing chain, the timing cover can't be removed with the head in place.

That price seems over the top for me.... If your willing to take a punt at that price id hold out for a lower mileage one which you will definately find...
