Series 3 Brakes

Hello,

I have recently brought a series 3 which has been sitting for about 8 years. I think it would be best to replace all the brake shoes and wheel cylinders as they are likely to leak when pressure is applied.

I had a look today and it seams like you need to drop the front king pins to get access to the lower cylinders.

Is there anything i need to be careful of when doing this?

You don't need to go that far!

Once you have the wheel and drum off you have enough room. If you want to go to town you can take the backplate off for a scrub and paint. You may be lucky and get the hydraulic fitting undone and re-usable. I wasn't and had to make up new pipes between the top and bottom cylinders, and that was very easy with the backplate on the bench.
 
a new set of brake springs is a good idea on a rebuild like yours.
Its good to have the shoes returning correctly
 
thanks for all the comments, it looks a bit tight to get anything other than a spanner on the lower cylinder and even that could be tight. i will preserver.

Is there anywhere which sells pre-formed connecting pipes? i don't have a flaring kit you see.

Yes, paddocks, Brookwells too name a couple,seek and ye shall find, or you could try ebay. It's not a big deal to completely remove the drum and back plate that way it will be easier to refurb the lot, you have too bleed the brakes anyway.
