Hello,
Anybody had problems with the fuel door/flap keep flying open for no apparent reason on a Discovery GS Series 2 td5 53plate

Any ideas?

Regards
RichardG

When you press the flap release button, the pin retracts and the door springs open, when the button is released again, the pin pops back out. As you close the door, the plastic catch clips around the pin. I would suggest either the plastic catch is broken or the pin is not sticking out far enough to engage properly.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
I haven't had time to have a good look at it at the moment, it's done it twice today for the first time ever, since I've had the vehicle, about a fortnight. (maybe that's why they sold it) :D
I just wondered if it was a straight forward switch and solenoid or if it was hooked up to a computer. I realise it shouldn't open while the engine's running. The catch seems to be ok, might be me not pushing it hard enough home and it's only halfway locked. I'll have a good look and report back.

Regards & Thanks

pop the flap open and bend the metal part of the catch towards the pin, push the flap to and check the gap between the metal part of the catch and the pin, it should be as close as poss without touching.

it's a common problem with these as the metal is very soft and if you knock it with the pump it bends very easily.

Another cure, I've found that the button for the flap is in the wrong place and it's easy to knock when putting the key in the ignition (2003 models onwards). if your vehicle doesn't have cruise control, there is a spare switch blank above the fuel flap button, move the button into the spare hole and put the blank in the hole the fuel button came from, that way you wont accidently knock it

Clutchdust,
Thanks for that, I did exactly what you suggested. (bending the clip bracket). I did it yesterday and so far it's been fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks

Hello,

I have exactly this problem - just not only the metal part of the catch was bent, but also the plastic retaining clip is falling out.
I just ordered one on eBay.

Is there any other way to solve this? I mean replace it with some kind of locking fuel plug or something?

(Sorry for my English - it is not my first language).

Hi
I have the opposite problem! I cannot open the flap. The button on the dash doesn't appear to do anything. I checked the fuse which according to the decal on the inside of the cover it's the 2nd one down on the left - this fuse is ok.
Where should I look next? If I need to check power to the motor is it easy to get at?
Only had the car 10 days and luckily the previous owner left me almost a full tank so its still just under half, but better get this sorted before we run out

was the ignition off and alarm disarmed when you tried? ...cos it won't work with ignition on, if that's covered the problem can be very complicated cos it's earth path managed by the BCU, so the momentary switch only gives a positive inpulse from F2 to the solenoid and the BCU completes the earth path if everything is OK(on the red/blue wire), fortunately if the solenoid is good you can rewire it's command with direct earth as long as when you push the switch there's feed to the solenoid on the purple/red wire, rule out the switch too by bridging the purple/grey and purple/red wires in it's plug, see attachment how to get to the solenoid

:eek:Luckily just operator error! Gone out and tried it again and it works. Ignition off and flap opens dooh!

Thanks Sierrafery luckily haven't had to resort to wiring butchery at this early stage of ownership
