Repainting

I'm going to totally repaint my land rover series 2a and was wondering what colour of blue would be best.
I quite like the colour it is now but want it a proper Land Rover colour.

I thought the only 'proper' blue colour is 'Marine Blue'

If I get drunk enough this summer...I might remove ALL the paint and polish up the bare alloy (Birmabright) panels and 'go commando' !!

According to the Land Rover Paint Man there is aircraft blue aswell.

if aircraft blue is the same as the raf used then its more like grey
my raf ambulance was that color not nice


now its just a patch work quilt of grey and blue and black with a little yellow lol

Yeah, not sure that would look so good.

Its not to everone's taste, but when I fist got it, I got the ump with everyone say " when are you going to paint it green then". It stayed yellow ever since.

I'm not really into yellow, I'm looking at a blue.

Understand, most people can't stand it. I have to say that its not my favorite either but thats how it came and thats how I have painted it ever since.
If it came blue then keep it blue - looks nice.

They all look the same when caked in mud and dents anyhow

But I need some paint since I got a new series 3 front panel which needs to be painted and we can't have it dark blue, marine blue and green in places.
It came with the series 2 and 3 lights and a weird tubular bumper which make the front end look quite strange.



See what I mean?

Marine blue gets my vote.
When I did this one - 2 tubs of synthetic enamel did the whole thing - total cost £18. Oh, plus a half decent paintbrush.

That does look good, think i'll get marine blue. Where did you buy it from?
And are they rocky mountain towing eyes on top of your bumper?

Can i ask where you got your paint from as that looks Great

That paint came from Paddocks, it was a few years ago now, they were selling their synthetic enamel for £9 a litre.

BUT, having done a few brush jobs on various things, I would probably get it mixed up from Tractol if I did it again. I didn't think the synthetic enamel from Paddocks was quite as good.

I recently used Smith & Allan paints (www.smithandallan.com) who mixed up a small batch of Tractol to my spec and mailed it out to me at a very good price, I found them initially on eBay. Tractol goes on a treat.

It was only one coat of topcoat, with almost as much prep as you'd give a sprayjob, and I brush painted each item off the vehicle individually. Thanks for the comments, it was a nice Landy.

Oh - and as for the towing eyes - not sure I'm afraid. They came with a job lot of parts and I just stuck them on.

did mine with a sponge roller and coaching paint.

Got any pics you can post up? I've got something very big to paint soon (an 8-ton road roller!) and am most interested in using a paint roller instead of a brush. Smaller areas are great with a brush but I struggled a bit with the bigger bits - especially the bonnet, keeping a wet edge.

Picks are a bit poor but the paint goes on well - not as good as 2pack sprayed but still pretty nice. The paint type is important.
Makes sense to me to use a roller as its far easier to repair dings and scrapes when off roading etc...
A IIÁ is not a roller or E ytpe or anything - just a good old working tool. Bit like me really.
