Hey Guys

The Freelander central locking seems to generate a lot of posts, but I cant seem to find one that covers my issue :-(

She's a 2002 Freelander 1 LGV (3 door). The key works fine to lock/unlock the doors but the replacement remote fob I got doesnt. I had it programmed at a garage, and they can see the fob working, but the computer they attached says it has reprogrammed the system but something isnt quite right.... which turns out to be, it doesnt work...

I've replaced the sensor (3 times from ebay resellers) under the dash cowl and I've checked and seen the sensor seems to be getting power. But where do I go next?

I read somewhere the EMU may need to be replaced, but that sounds a bit major.. It is that bad/expensive or is there a third party remote just for the door locking/unlocking that may work?

It's been a while since I really dug into car maintenance (before they had computers), so I dont want to cause the doors not to lock/unlock at all or the engine not to start...

Any ideas/pointers appreciated.
Ian

If it's just the remote door locking that isn't working. Then it's probably simply not programmed correctly. The immobilizer is independent of the door locking, so it'll still start ok. It just needs the fob programmed correctly to the CCU.

But I've taken it to a garage and they used their computer to set the code to a genuine fob and they tested the fob to make sure it was sending okay. I bought a 3rd party remote where you plug a dongle into the diagnostic connection for it to reset to their fob and it still doesnt work.

At a bit of a loss now, to be honest

Let me get this right. Did they copy the signal from one fob to program the other fob?

No, when I got the car, there wasnt a fob at all. I bought a genuine one and took it to the garage to program. They connected their computer to it, did what they needed to do, but when they pressed the fob buttons, nothing happened. so it tested the fob and that was sending the signal.

so then I got one where they send you a plug in dongle which you connect to the diag port. Press the key and the light flashes on the dongle. Then when I tried that, it didnt work either.

The new fob needs correctly coding to the CCU. As far as I know, only T4 can guarantee a correct sync between the fob and the CCU.
There also two types of fob available (pre and post 01MY) and you have to have the correct one for the year of vehicle.

Did you do the five pressing of the the fob key quickly near the driver's door. I had to get a autolocksmith out when I bought mine without a fob. He tuned in the new fob key then pressed several times quickly. My keylock was bust due to the pathetic design by Landrover.

Sorry, who or what are T4?
T4 = testbook = Land Rover's software used by them and their main dealers. Some independent garages have it anorl.

A hawkeye with FL1 license will also connect a new fob to yer Freelander 1. I'm too far away but someone else may be close.
