Freelander 2 (LR2) Rear subframe

Hi.
I'm in the process of derusting, my 2007 TD4 manual freelander 2.
I managed to get a bit of lift time, and had a quick poke around underneath with a mot inspector, he said it was ok but crusty, some soft spots on inner chills, but not near any jack points. And should be ok for mot in August,
I know the subframe is on its last legs, so thought I would get a used one and refurb it, to avoid too much down time.
I've heard that the earlier evoque frames are compatible, but unsure what to look out for, and they are a lot cheaper. Conflicting info, some say they need modified, some say straight swap, any more info would be much appreciated. If all else fails are there any pitfalls with the aftermarket ones.

From an in depth look, they will fit but make sure you get an AWD subframe, as the FWD won't take the rear diff.

You shouldn't need to do much to a clean condition Evoque subframe.

Would you know what year range to look out for, I would replace all bushes etc, just for piece of mind.
A friend gets a lot of galvanising done for work and the stripping and cleaning is paid by the tank, not weight, so he can get it back to bare metal for me.i wouldn't bother getting it galvanized. Just a good primer and top coat, plus waxed inside.

Up to 2017 or there abouts should fit. The Evoque has an extra brace to give greater rigidity to the frame, which may or may not fit, but if it does it'll be worth having.

Blast it off and paint it inside and out with Bonda Rust Primer, which won't come off or chip if applied to a blasted surface. Nothing else beats Bonda for permanent rust protection.

There's a 2013 local to me, comes complete with hubs and arms that I don't need, as I've renewed mine and dipped the hubs before renewing bearing and back plates, so may be negotiable, still a third of the price of a F2 .

I'm never going to recuperate what I spend on the vehicle but I'm having fun.

Just wondering if you fitted an Evoque rear subframe as I have a similar issue with my 2011 F2? I’ve checked the LR website and the part numbers are completely different. Am I overthinking this and they are pretty much interchangeable? Cheers

Hi, sorry didnt see this notification,
I haven't had a chance to fit this yet,
Not sure what year the evoque is compatible with.
After some advice from Nodge 68 and a bit more research, I got a 2013 evoque 2.2 AWD. Taken of vehicle 2020 so not to old, surface rust but solid and no damage, I want to refurb first, then fit, saves down time, as it's my wife's daily driver,
After some research, the only difference is the mounting holes for the transverse arms are 16mm lower, that will introduce a slight positive camber but well within the +/- 0.75 allowed.
Introduces 1.3mm of toe, but again this can be adjusted with the 4 wheel alignment.
This car had an electronic handbrake, so no handbreak cable mounting brackets, the holes are there to transfer over the brackets, these may need tweaking due to the difference in mounting heights,
Transverse arms swap over as they are the same.
I'm going to get mine blasted, as the bushes are all ok, or I would of dipped it but that will destroy the bushes.
Shame I dont do you tube, would be interesting to show the difference and how easy or hard the task is, the problem now is getting a decent F2 subframe, at a reasonable price, I paid 130 for the evoque, but that's because it came with suspension arms and hubs that I dont need. There were plenty from about £80 ,but this one was local to me.

Thanks very much for your reply. Some great information there and certainly some findings regarding the differences that I wouldn’t have thought of! The prices on eBay still seem to be reasonable, and I didn’t want to splash out of a subframe I can’t make fit. Would love to see the differences without having to remove mine as it’s a daily driver, but that’s the challenge I guess. I assume the hubs, brakes, suspension arms etc are similar or the same on both?
I have searched everywhere but surprisingly I can’t see anyone who has done this swap already.

I cam across brand new take off front subframes for sale at one of the LR parts specialists a couple of years ago, they weren't even that expensive. Foolishly I didn't bookmark the page, and can't find it now. I would have liked a new one for my FL2, which apart from some rust on the subframes, is rust free.

I think Eurosubframes do them.

They do, but they aren't genuine parts, only pattern which isn't something I'd be installing in a vehicle crumple zone.

Hey guys for some reason I didn't get the notification for these replies. managed to source a solid one for the front, I will be looking into a rear for next year.

Just a case of cleaning it up and treating it all.

Also meant to add any tips for getting new rubber parts to fit.
