We are expecting our first baby in about 4 weeks. I am just getting organised with this one. I have a rear facing car seat to fit in the back of my disco. The problem I have found is that the rear seat belts are too short to fit right over the front of the seat.

Hase anyone else had the same problems and what is the solution, Is there a certain make of seat that works in the rear of the disco's for newborns?

Thanks

Yep, in the same boat as you, albeit baby is overdue now! We went to Toys r Us in Reading, and bought the Graco baby seat (the one that has the carry handle) that has the detachable base. It's similar to the one at Mothercare in price and style, and oddly, both stores only do the one type! So, not much choice in price or style, as they come at £99. The only thing is that the strap that holds the 'female' end of the seat belt is quite long, so when you fit the base, the belt receptacle protrudes through the base belt 'route'. We got around that by using the female belt receptacle furthest away from the door. You could use the middle lap belt, but we can't as we already have another car seat in the back for our 3 year-old, and we wanted a bit of distance between the two, for various reasons.

You can get complete travel systems at both stores, which include the car seat and base, but we already have a good pram, so didn't want to splash out an extra £50 - £100 for something that we already have.

Thanks, we allready have a buggy and were given the car seat. It is realy annoying because it seems like the rear belts are shorter. The seat fits in the front and in my wifes car all round just not in the rear if mine.

Hav you seen a forward facing option for new borns or is it just the rear facing option?

Only seen rear-facing ones for little 'uns, but you can get the same seat type as cheap as £30 from Mothercare which come without a base, but as you can imagine they are a bit of a pain as you have to keep strapping it in and out (unless you want to take baby out of the seat, which kinda defeats the object of having a carry handle, etc). As it is most probably the good lady who will be transporting the little one around, this is a good feature to have. See: -

However, if you have £500 somewhere, you might want to buy THIS  : -

i got a 96 disco i did found the seat belt seemed abit short than usual but we got the same sort of seat from mothercare but the seat needs to be put slightly upright a few inches while the top strap is put across the back of the seat. you can then lower the seat back into postion

Hi, we have a 95 disco and my grandaughter's rear facing seat fits in fine. Hers is from a mothercare 3 wheel travel system which has no base. My daughter clips the belt in across the seat first, then pulls the top strap over and around the back of the seat. It is a tight fit, but is very secure.

Hi,

We went through the same pain barrier, we ended up buying a jane powertrack 360, with the lie flat baby seat, takes up two spaces on the backseat, but were rest assured that baby was securely strapped in. And lieing flat is better for baby than being hunched up......... according to the reports.

We spoke to landrover and they said there was nothing suitable to rearward face, in the back, but you may well be able to get something for the front, problem was we had an airbag and you could not turn it off.

Have a look on ebay or the web, they are a babyseat, come 3 wheel pushchair, and to be honest for the money you cannot beat it, it depends on how much you want\have to spend to spend.

Hope that helps

Dave
