Hi all,

Looked at a nice 2003 Td5 ES today.

Quick question how do I know if the air suspension is working. I started the car up and pressed the button on the dash. A green light popped up and then a yelow icon on the dash flashed with the air suspension icon flashing. I never noticed any movement in the rear though.

Help, how do I check it ? Don't want to buy a problem. The dealer selling it isn't Land Rover based so isn't any help really.

Hoping to put a deposit on it tomorrow - Help

Thanks

Mark

If it sits up nicely the air suspenders must be holding it up.

Pressing the button on the dash should lift the rear a couple of (valuable) inches, but it takes quite a few seconds to start doing it.

It drops down at 18+ mph whether you like it or not.

Does that car have ACE cornering magic?

Traction control?

Hi Charlesy

Yes it has the ACE cornering and traction control.

I was always under the impression that the car sat low until you turned it on and then lifted up.

the green light is hill decent control and is only active in low box , the suspension lift you will see if you fix your eyes on a spot on the floor just infront of the bonnet... you will see it rise a couple of inches over about 10-15 seconds.

My Disco 2 TD5 sits up all the time.
It has never lowered itself, but there is an accessory remote control (I want one ....) that can be used to let it down, such to help hitch a trailer, or to get a rock into the back.

Who know where I can get one of those remotes for a reasonable price?

the SLS (self levelling suspension) system keeps the vehicle level at all times - if extra weight is added in the back & the rear drops, the compressor puts more air into the rear air springs (bags) to raise the back end. It should sit level at all times - with engine running & when switched off - the system will not work if there are any doors open ( you sometimes hear a hiss from the compressor when you exit the vehicle & shut the door as the sytem levels the vehicle to compensate for your weight leaving the vehicle)

it is not a 'ride height' system like on the range rovers.

the rear suspension can be raised to an 'off road' mode by pressing and holding the fascia button for a few secs.showing a disco with an arrow pointing up at the back. (see diagram) - an audible chime will sound as the vehicle raises up & the light on the dash will flash - when the vehicle is fully raised the light will stay lit. (see 2nd diagram) - to lower the vehicle - press & hold the button again & it will lower - light will flash again & go out when fully lowered.

if the vehicle is driven above about 20mph with the rear suspension raised the light will flash & it will lower.

as charles says - you can ge a separate fob to lower the back right down - cost about £80 to buy & have to be programmed to your vehicle

the trailer hitching remote, i believe needs coding to your car... i've seen 'em on ebay, but you need a main stealer to pair it with your car..

when you start it up make sure all the door's are shut or it wont work.start it up open the drivers window shut the door then you can reach in side and press the button then look at the gap between the rear wheel and the wheel arch you will see it move up.

Be careful when buying these off ebay, if theres no bar code with it then it's useless as it can't be programmed without it.

Don't forget it has to be in low box to raise the suspention on the dash button

Not in my car you don't need to be..
Mine will raise any time, hi range or low, as long as the road speed is under 18 miles an hour. I do it traffic to annoy the car behind me.

Tried and tested today. Sat outside the bank whilst the sales man nipped in to pay his bills.

Had the chance to test all the buttons etc. Suspensions lifts and drops no problems.

Many thanks for all you help and informative posts.

I think you will find you are incorrect in making this statement my friend - or as everyone else would say - bull****! - makes no difference high or low range.

So - have you bought it then ?

bull**** seems a bit harsh, I had been told that it only worked in low box and have never bothered to try otherwise!!!

Yep done the deal collect it on Tuesday :D - having the usual pre-delivery bits done.

Can't wait if I'm honest, just got to stave off my urges to modify as the car comes with a 12mth parts and labour warranty which I think would be void if I had a re-mapp and changed the intercooler.
