proper name

Hi all whats the proper name for the rubber moulded strips that run down either side of my disco?

Body Mouldings to some Rubbing strips to others.

On the Rimmer bros site they refer to them as rubbing strios with or without the chrome insert.

Hi again,
My LR Discovery parts catalogue calls them Rubbing Strip (RS) so u have RS Front Fender RH, RS Front Door RH, RS Rear Door RH and RS Rear Quarter RH and it's the same again for the L/H side.
Some come with black inserts and some with chrome it all depends on your VIN and model.

Xs models has rubbing strips over the wheel arch as well, in the book their called bodyside moldings XS only.

Thanks lads mine have a silver insert [Ithink its plastic] can I remove and replace or paint them ?

Sounds like they were chrome once upon a time. Looking a mine some bits have faded in places I think there would b problems getting the inserts out and back without any damage to the strip itself and the new paint job, so best leave alone.

Ive seen it done before on other cars and thats mask up the area and spray insitu.. It looks easy todo, a nice sunny day job 4u. A bright red looks good.
