Hiya guys.

Have done the EGR bypass kit, bmw crankcase filter, synergy 2-

whilst down the breakers noticed this freelander had cruise control fitted and been looking into fitting it onto mine

as the information on the net seems to be about aftermarket i cannot find out what im looking for

are these the parts i would need please

the on/off dashboard switch
steering wheel -set/resume switch
electronic control box

do i need anything else please and does the ECU regonise when the units are fitted or does it have to be activated.

ive been told the wiring should already be there and
was wondering if anyone may have done this please

thanks so much

all the best

gary

been quite a bit about this on here gary, it seems the best success rate was for complete stand alone aftermarket kits.

although everything is in place for the factory fit, a couple of peeps tried it and couldn't get it to work, there was a problem with the ECU recognising it's presence, even when enabled by a dealer.

good luck though if you try.

thanks buddy, appreciate it.

i have been trying to search on here but i dont know if the site providers are having problems but for the last few days keep getting booted off, all my other sites are fine only this one.

will also see if i can find the threads for the aftermarket ones.

as this car was in the breakers i didnt know what parts would be required to be taken off in order for it to work.

i think it would be

steering wheel controls,
dashboard on/off switch
cruise control ecu

thanks again

I've looked at this too Gary and believe the ECU to be located under the passenger seat

hiya

ive looked under the seat and there's no box but wiring there.

ive had a good look on rave and cannot find the components thats i actually need

mines an auto 2002 3 door freelander

once i know what parts i need then i can look into it a bit more then try and look at wiring diagrams then to compare it to mine to see if my loom has all the connections there.

as im not sure if they done different looms for different models or just used a universal one for all the models and only fitted the extra's according to the model

thanks so much for the help, would really like to see if i can do this but wish to find out before i take the parts of this freelander

all i can see at the moment are

steering wheel control
on/off switch on the dashboard

and a cruise control ecu that fits under the seat.

cannot thank all of you once again for the great help ive already received

PS- if i can fit it and it works would then take pictures of the parts needed and the whole process from start to finish

all the best

hiya

had a look at the wiring in the freelander.

there are 2 x blank switched either side of the cig lighter which i think are for heating the seats.

then there is another black switch on my instrument panel on the left hand side above the rear fog light switch.

when i pulled it out it has 4 wires on it.

1) white with red stripe
2)orange-red
3) empty
4) white-yellow stripe
5) Black

was wondering what this is for, could it be the plug in for the on/off cruise control switch please.

underneath the drivers seat there are 2 plugs

no 1) has a blue wire with a pink stripe
other wire is black

no 2) has a red with a white stripe wire
black wire

is this to plug in the cruise control interface

thanks again guys

all the best

Hi Gary,
I went the aftermarket route on my 06' TD4 Manual as it's a no-go on the manuals from LR (not offered as an option).
You will find a lot of useful info in this thread - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-cruise-control-help-needed-please-41525.html
The TD4 only had CC offered on the Auto (at least on the facelift models).
The petrol (K & V6) systems use an ECU & vac servo to achieve the CC using the throttle butterfly and the Auto's have a CC ECU that works in tandem with the Auto & Engine ECU's to achieve the CC via the CAN (computer) bus.
There's a good description of how it works in the RAVE explaining how the ECU's interwork and what switches do and how the system disconnects itself when its operating range is exceeded.

Bottom line seems to be - if you have a TD4 and it's Auto - initially looks possible to upgrade?
You will need the original LR CC ECU, the steering wheel controls and the master switch - do-able if the wiring is there (or by adding new wires if not)?
The final setup will need to be enabled via a dealer system to get the ECU's programmed and talking to each other - people who asked dealers were told it isn't possible (they don't know how?)?

Research the subject well before parting with any significant quantity of cash - you might come unstuck at the final step of getting it all working even when all of the parts are correctly installed.

hiya.

may i really thank you for such informative and great help

will look into the other links

my freelander is a 2002 TD4 3 door auto so by the sounds of it there may be a slim chance it may work and will indeed further investigate it.

i did speak to a land rover dealer today and he said firstly i have to replace the entire loom at a cost of £1,500 adding that it couldnt be done and there was no cc fitted to any FL 1 models.

so just thanked him for his time and left it at that.

i was also wondering if i may be really cheeky and ask a huge favour please.

if anyone has a FL 1 auto with the factory fitted cc would they be able to take any pictures please of the plugs underneath the seats and back of the cc master dashboard switch please so then i could try and see if they look the same please

i hope you dont mind me asking but was just thinking then i could then at least see is they a similar to what i have.

if i do indeed get this to work would be more than happy to post pictures of what and how i fitted the factory cc.

cannot thank everyone enough for such great help with this and hopefully may be able to get it working

all the best

have spent ages going through the Rave electrical pictures and found the following

i have the cruise control master switch wiring behind the blank switch on the LHS of my instrument panel.ref CO749

the wires underneath the seats look like they are for the pre tesioners and seat heater.

ive found the ref to how the cruise works which is great , thanks for that.

as ive got the wiring for the master switch have now got to find out where the wiring is for the CC interface is, maybe its under the centre console.

also need to check the rotary wires from the steering wheel

will keep you updated if people wish me to so it may be helpful to others.

thanks again and any further advice, different locations of parts etc, pics etc would be great

Hi Gary,
The main loom splits under the radio console (two large multiway connectors), so you may have the wiring for the top end - master switch wiring - looking ok ?? :scratching_chin:
Check out if the voltages are present at the unused switch socket (CO749) - you should find an instrument light feed (side lights for the switch illumination), a ground return, a fused live feed and a switched live from the fuse (don't remember the number) to feed the CC ECU. (RAVE has the wire colours)
That's where I stopped - the switch wiring was there but the fused CC feed was not. (not in the loom from the fuse panel but the correct wire appeared at the switch ??? - must have some internal loom splice {white to white/yellow??} missed off on my version of the loom) :scratching_chin:
I did not have the plug under the drivers seat either AND the colours of the wires at the two large connectors where the loom joins under the radio were not as the RAVE.
I tried to 'find' the wire that should have come from the CC switch but nothing matching the switch end appeared on any of the connectors.:confused:
I hope you have better luck but if your CC connector is not already under the seat or tucked under the carpet by the tunnel then your probably looking at installing new wiring.
I found empty CC connector wiring sockets under the rotary connector and installed connector sockets into the blanks and new wiring alongside the existing loom to connect up my system. The new CC paddles just plug into the top of the rotary connector.
DO check carefully before buying anything expensive. :):)

hiya

a massive thanks to you buddy, i started to take out the front and centre console then looked under the carpet and by routing around found a black connector with 9 wire on it

yellow- black stripe
yellow-brown stripe
white- blue stripe
blue- white stripe
black
red- white stripe
red-green stripe
brown-pink stripe
white-yellow stripe

on the black plug it has 1-967-416-1
bmw

i havent checked the voltages yet, but the fuse is in on number 35

going to see if i can find out any info on the rave hopefully i may be able to find something out.

so far so good but like you say im not going to spend anything until im 100% sure that all the wiring is there.

plus been trying to also find other breakers where they have freelanders that have had cruise control, as the one that had it was out in the rain for many months

thanks so much for all the great help and if there is any other info you may know of would be extremely grateful and appreciative

massive thanks to everyone and to TD john for taking the time replying to this

have been looking at the rave cd

on C0895 and C 1959 im trying to work out the difference between them

also there are 3 columns the first 2 i would assume are the numbers on the plug, 2- colours of wires but dont know what the CCT means

has anyone any idea please

thanks again

gary

taken some pics of the plug on the instrument panel and the plug under the seat, ive just seen on the black plug AMP, my heart dropped as im hoping it isnt for an audio amp

plus on the instrument panel plug ive got a switched live and a sidelight live
thanks again

gary

Hi Gary,
Don't worry about AMP that's the name of the connector manufacturer.
There are two possibilities for the plug you found - it's either the CC ECU or possibly the CD multichanger?
Check out the RAVE for the wire colours & number of wires.
CCT = shorthand for circuit usually describes whats on the end e.g. temperature sensor, horn or LH speaker

hiya

ive checked the rave cd and the wires relating to the plug and they do indeed match up.

it looks very promising but yet again im not keeping my hopes up

i was going to order the cruise control master switch as i think they are only about a tenner, so i can then see if i get any switched lives on the plug under the seat.

if thats ok will then remove the air bag and check the coupler to see what wiring ive got there, but hopefully by having the cc plug under the seat i should have the rear there.

thanks again

Hi Gary,
No need to take the air bag off yet.
Take the cowel covers off around the steering column under the wheel and check if all of the connector holes in the rotary coupler have wires in them.
If there are no spare holes then the wiring from the coupler is in place. :):)
The paddles for the CC just plug into the empty sockets under the air bag.
