Hi,
Just bought a FL2 SD4 dynamic, ex demo.
If I were to add a performance chip to increase mpg (and power) would I invalidate warranty. Also do they work?
Cheers

once you have done 10000 miles you will find mpg and performance is greatly improved, when you have done 18000 miles it has improved further, i think chip is wasted on sd4.

all diesel engine's need about 20,000 on the clock before they are really broken in in the old days (60's ) sorry you young ones when ever the vehicle I was driving had a new engine as soon as it had the first 1000 miles on it I drove it as fast as I could as in those days if you drove a engine slow it always seemed to be that way ,ok things have changed with reliability these days and they say you do not need to drive steady for the first 1,000 miles but I am still a believer in what I say.

as an apprentice one of my trainers took delivery of a new escort mk 1 van which he proceeded to drive sedately for the first 1000 miles, after that whatever we did and however we drove it the bloody thing just refused to perform, it was dead slow for the next 99000 miles till it was cleared out. Last new car i had , first journey 250miles on motorway, 2nd journey 250 miles back, non stop, and it had lots of go for 100000 miles.

Not on ere yer don't. Chips are considered important and should always come in paper.

They have the under rated/detuned, a good chip system like 5 alive are very good and make the engine very efficient and less polluting. not them cheap ebay specials and add a variable turbo

So are you saying it is a good thing to chip this car...
I was talking about chips from the chip shop.

Not many have FL2's on ere. If you want the faster version then get the SD4. Drive one and see how it goes before you think about chips (in paper). ;)

I guess most if not all SD4's will still be under warranty so not many owners would want to chip them. As they become older this may change. You could have a peep on the freel2 forum to see what other SD4 owner have done.

if you look further the mondeo variant of this engine is posted as 200 hp and i think is soon to be uprated again, but i find the sd4 once run in is fairly good on mpg and performance.

Just chip the engine !!!

The difference will be amazing !

If there's any issues just unplug the unit before it goes into the garage for repairs
They won't know any different

If you unplug a chip device they will still see strange recorded values in the computer from it's operation. Like over and unfeasible speed warning. Any problems and it will be their number one eggscuse not to repair under warranty. It's the owners choice at the end of the day.
