2 years ago I replaced the ignition switch on my '85 Defender 110. I have seldom used the truck as my '97 Disco is my daily driver. I recently put the Defender back on the road and with in a couple of weeks of driving the new ignition switched started popping out of run mode into accessory mode. This was a bit alarming as I was driving down the highway at the time and it did this a few times before I figured out what was happening. As the switch is definitely out of warrantee I will be buying another new switch.

Doing some web surfing I realize there are a few different manufacturers of replacement switches. This brings me to a question. if you could rank best to least best for manufacturers of replacement parts for Land Rovers how would your list go?

Thanks for your comments

Yeah dont trust Britpart electrics, metal work only,

Bearmach is slightly better,

Prefer LR Genuine parts but sometimes the older parts are better than the current ones availible

Certainly don't trust ****part for rotating parts either.

JLR have just launched Heritage Parts as part of Special Vehicle operations. They are re-starting production of a range of parts for live axle vehicles, so series, Defender and, surprisingly P38.
I bet the prices will be stupid expensive though.

you mean the contact switch on the rear of the ign barrel?

i bought a genuine one a while back, but when i took my dash off it was the wrong one!

have a look if that's what you mean http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f62/2-5na-td-def-ignition-switch-prc2735g-276386.html

What I meant was when you turn the key to engage the starter and the key springs back from start to run mode where it sits under normal run conditions. What is happening in my case is that suddenly the key and spring back or rotate further one detent closer to the position just before locked.

So I should buy oem LR, then ? And finally Britpart for things that aren't mechanical?

How about Bearmark? Are there any others that perhaps manufacture for LR but also sell under there own name?

i think the spring is actually on the switch contact on the back, like that link.

there's a lil screw holding it on.

if you take the binnacle off you can usually get to it and remove. discon your battery first and note the wires!

pull it off and have a look. no need to remove the barrel

Don't buy Britpart for:
Things made out of metal (any type of metal)
Electrical bits
Things that make it go
Things that make it stop
Things that make it go round corners

The occasional plastic trim bits may be ok as long as they are none of the above :D

As a rule if the part you require has any moving components and or an important part don't bother with Britpart, Bearmach, Delphi ect are OK, at a push All makes 4x4 for, well maybe a set of door card clips, even the Britpart Defender wheel arch spats do not fit properly, and are brittle. I understand that the Britpart stainless steel exhausts are quite good to be fair.

Just been pootling around on ebay and found:

Land-Rover-BOOST-PIN-by-Morgan-Hill-fits-200Tdi-300Tdi-The-Original-The-Best.
Yours for £264.95 Land Rover BOOST PIN by Morgan Hill, fits 200Tdi 300Tdi - The Original The Best. | eBay

And then:
Landrover Defender/discovery Fuel Pin CASE HARDENED**Boost Pin** 200/300tdi for £35.00 Landrover Defender/discovery Fuel Pin CASE HARDENED**Boost Pin** 200/300tdi | eBay

Can there really be such a difference in quality/manufacturing/material/performance?

Anybody tried either of them?

The expensive one you can get from Argos surprisingly ...

you an old geezer?

let me explain something for you fella ;)

the first boost pin really sells for £64.99, you can click '13 sold' and it'll show you.

they jack the price up when they run out of stock to stop people buying. why? because if they remove the listing ebay punishes them in the rankings.

secondly, it's not sold from argos. ebay have click n collect locations.. these now include argos stores.

so the stuff gets sent to a click and collect location and you can pick it up.

hope that clarifies a few things.. :D :p :D

Thanks for explaining the ways of the modern world. Me being an old fogey finds these modern way too complexed to interpretate ... :p :D :p

Ironically though, the plastic bags some of the parts come in are good quality. Maybe they should just sell packaging.
