Just a quick question....

My Range Rover (P38 4.0 V8 - 1995) is leaking oil. From what i've been told this is normal for a Range Rover, infact people say worry when it stops leaking, because it's empty..

Anyway, judging by the small lake on the garage floor it's bad enough to need fixing.. I scrambled underneath is with a torch after running the engine and it appears to be coming from a sensor under the exhaust manifold on the left bank (Looking from the front).

This is the oil pressure switch isn't it?

I can't think what else it would be but the way my lucks been lately i thought it's probably better to ask....!

Give the area a clean and check in a couple of days. could be the pressure switch or the hose from the oil cooler or maybe the oil filter.
I fitted a genuine LR filter a couple of years ago and it leaked like a sieve from where the body was swaged to the top plate....so much for "Genuine parts are best".
Unlikely that the thread on the oil pressure switch has suddenly decided to spring a leak after 16 years, bit like a wiring harness that is static suddenly developing a broken wire with no movement or chafing present !!!

I cleaned it off and had a closer look, it is the oil pressure switch which is leaking... It's kinda hard to miss really it's throwing it out!

No biggie though these sensor's cost £2 each (Common problem on older P38's apparently). Better than the temp switch i bought for my cbr600, that was a pattern part and cost £45. Dirty thieving gypsies.

It turns out that the sensor is the crank knock sensor, is this a common issue??? Hopefully it just needs a new copper washer or something.. Need to remove the starter to get to it...
