10 months ago I had a similar dilemma. The P38 I had put heart and soul into for several years, as Saint has described, was sold. With an ageing family 250 miles away needing support, even running a cheap backup vehicle along side the P38 always left a reliability niggle in my mind, despite rare problems. In their place I leased a new Volvo V40, comfortable, fast, no road tax. 58mpg on country lanes for heavens sake! What's not to like? Do I miss the P38?

HELL YES!! :(o_O

Think twice. Then think again.

Yes I know I like it a lot and values seem to be holding, but I'm not sure how practical I am being, love the no road tax and 58MPG!!

Considering Volvos

I have and old Porsche 993 to feed my non practical mechanised division, took it to Cornwall in the week and boy does it eat those hills the range rover struggles with!!

Thanks for all help and comments........

C'mon Saint.........how can I possibly take the advice of a Dyed in the wool 100% RR Junkie........not rational!! :)

Interesting that the Top Gear episode when the three stooges went through the jungle, the vehicle that survived was the old Range Rover.....

Yes, but that was the good 'ole 3.5V8

Having a young child (yes at my age!) I decided it was time to buy a newer daily driver, the intention was to keep my P38 as a weekend plaything - however the previous owner wanted to buy it back off me so I let her go. My P38 was generally pretty reliable but it was just starting to feel very tired.I bought a boring Jap (Lexus) I do much prefer the P38 - but I must say the RX is growing on me, the amazing torque from the hybrid drive fires it off the line - it has the performance and refinement of a L322 petrol Rangie and the fuel economy of a diesel. The interior just doesn't feel special, although it is very comfortable and it's not a proper four wheel drive - rear drive is part-time and electric only. The main thing is I can just jump in a drive without giving reliability a second thought - it's a lot of car for £9K.

Thanks for all your advice, reluctantly I have put the old fella on the for sale section.........
I know I will regret it but needs must..
Thanks to all
