put five ltrs of oil into my disco 300tdi after service how much should it take thats what came with me service pack but it doesnt seem to be registering on dipstickor is it me being dipstick

You got the handbook?
Itll give all fluid volumes so you can buy enough before you start this sort of thing. Also when draining and replacing any fluids if its got a fill and drain hole always check the fill hole first eg diffs. If you cant open it then you can drive it.

got the service stuff all together assumed theyd supply right amount of oil how wrong no havent got book have put 5lts in should be ok to drive shouldnt it if it take 6.7 ltr or too risky have serviced ordinary cars before 2ltr deisels always been given correct amount least i know how much now, bugger least there damn sight easier to work on

ok matey will try my local garage down in village hes a cowboy bodger but he might stock the oil and sell me some if he wont will get matey to get me some better safe than sorry hey, will be having words with car parts place as well not doing there job

only turned it round on drive a matter of 2 mins it aint moving or turned on till 2 more ltrs in if something is damaged after that then car part supplier will have a 300tdi engine shoved up his arse

I'm sorry but I can't sit still and listen to you blaming someone else for your troubles. It's your responsibility to know how much oil goes in, not the oil/filter supplier.

If the Disco only needed 4ltrs and you'd put in all 5 and blown the engine, would you still be blaming someone else?

Get yourself a Haynes manual or similar and start to learn about your vehicle, then you'll know what it needs. ;)

ere yar - now download the FREE Rave manual and save yoself some heartache:mad:

Good to see your trying and the fact your asking the right questions means your on the right track.Keep it up and you might even enjoy fixing your landy as much as driving it!(maybe.....)

You're a good man to take it on the chin - you'll go far.

If there is anything I can do to help, just ask.

It is a learning curve, but that's part of what makes Landy ownership so interesting and fulfilling. Once you have fixed a few things on your Disco your confidence will shine out!!

The best of luck to you

Dave

Just a piece of advice, but if she is new to you, you might care to considor changing all the oils: engine, gear & transfer box plus both axles. Also all the filters.
Available for Tdi 300 for £6.28+vat for the kit of air, oil & fuel filters.

Hiya newbie, it's a very good idea to go through all the fluids and change them, then you know exactly where you are. Unfortunately, as you have found out, people lie.

If youn have a dipstick for the gearbox I would assume that it's an auto?? Then I would leave that until last.

The transfer box box from memory takes about 2.8ltrs of oil and each differential takes 1.8ltrs I believe. Now, what oil to put in?? If you plan to keep the vehicle may I advise you to considor Difflock's Evo2 fully synth oil. It's not cheap but when I put it in my wife's Disco, the car purred with delight. It lasts well too.

Re the auto box, the total capacity is about 9ltrs and uses Dexron II or III but you'll find when you come to do it that you'll only get out about 4.5-5ltrs of oil, the rest stays in the torque converter. Unless you go to a specialist auto place where they have a machine for changing the oil fully, while the engine runs.

Don't forget to change all the filters. Changing the airfilter can make an enourmous difference to performance/economy.

Cheers
Dave

Ps Before you do the other oil changes, you might care to considor buying one of these in the piccie - use it to pump the new oil in!! Also warm the oil before you try and put it in - it makes the job easier.
