had my disco for just over a week now (300 tdi) and noticed a bad oil leak. there is a thick braided hose that comes off the rocker box and goes around the back of the engine and is dripping with oil. where does this hose go to as i cannot see around the back of the engine. ordered a new hose from land rover so will be doing it at weekend.

thanks.

Hey Mate,

I believe the pipe your referring to is the one which comes out of the crankcase breather valve? The pipe loops around the back of the engine and attaches to the air intake pipe which runs from the air box. I had a leak from the braided pipe that runs from the bottom of the valve down to the metal pipe from the crankcase. They get very porous with age, easy enough to replace.

One thing though, there shouldn't be any oil running in the pipe your talking about. The valve is designed to create a cyclone, where oil is returned to the engine through the rocker cover, and any gasses built up are returned to the air intake through the pipe you talk of. My advice would be to take the valve off (just one 8mm bolt holding it on), and give it a good clean with some paraffin before putting it back on. There's an O-ring on the stem where it goes into the rocker cover, I'd replace that also as mine was leaking. Just make sure its Nitrile and will cope with the engine temperature.

Hope this helps :)
