I wonder if any one can shed any light on the new noise which has just started.

When I pull away I get a clicking / grinding noise from the drivers side of the engine.

This noise goes away as soon as the vehicle is moving, its just pulling off that the noise is heard.

I first thought the noise was associated with something catching the drivers side drive shaft or something to do with the brakes, but it is only there when pulling away.

The noise is not there if the vehicle is stationary and you blip the throttle without the engine being underload.

I have had a good look around the engine but nothing seems out of place - but the noise is definately coming from the drivers side of the engine.

Many thanks,

Matt

Could be a stone or some kind of foreign body trapped behind your brake disc back plate? Try jacking it up on the suspect side and giving the wheel a spin to confirm....

My brother has got a problem like this on his mg zr and it like a metallic noise? Its a tensioner for one of the belts by the front left hand side of the engine if your standing in front of the car? It took us ages to find it

For all of you who are interested I have found the route course.

It would appear that when the service was done they pushed the side engine plastic cover in too far and all the plastic tabs that should go eitherside of the under engine cover plate side rails were all in on the engine side.Consequently, the lower pully was catching one of the plastic tabs when the engine moved on its engine mounts (and didnt catch when the engine was just ticking over).
