Got a disco 1 xs 300tdi... Problem. Sometimes my breaks are fine and stop me on a sixpence. But most the time I not got any apart from a couple of millimeters as it hits the floor. Been using my gears to stop. But now M.O.T time has come and was wondering if the vacuum pump could have anything to do with it. As for the rest of the break system it will be replaced as soon as I have my fail sheet.
Any Ideas what prob could be. Or has anyone else had the same problem. Cheers.:confused::confused:

vac pump fault would give hard pedal, air in system ,check reservoir to see if fluid splashes when peda; pumped (shows master cylinder needs replacing),you cant drive it on the road

Only down the road from you and have the same problem lol. i've replaced the master on mine and its still the same

or me still can't get mine to work unless i clamp off the rear flexi. And no its not being driven. Oh well prv gets picked up tomorrow

Yea looks like rubbers in the master cylinder. Don't worry folks it's not as bad as it sounds. Anyway car coming off road soon. Needs new screen and all my bits and bobs putting on. Oh and the hinge on the bonnet to be welded as it's come away from bulk head. do it when screen is out. Was just wondering about the vacuum pump as this is the only part that I wasn't planing on replacing. The rest yea. But I should have no problems when done I hope.
Cheers for your Input.

vac pump would give you a hard pedal. It provides the vacum needed to allow the servo to work. no servo rock hard pedal. Wish mine was as simple as yours lol. 3 days now, bleed countless times, replaced the master and still the same lol just hope the prv being replaced sorts it. Have some spares left over for a 300 if you need owt

Sounds like you have aleaking wheel cylinder in the rear, or they just need a damn good bleed, prob a cylinder though...

Thats the trick to finding brake faults, clamp off a wheel at a time and see what happens, if it improves then its that wheel(s). If there was no improvement then its proberbly the master cyl.

problem solved turned out someone had fitted the calipers upside down on the rear ie the right was on the left and the left on the right. so the bleed nipple was on the bottom not the top so good bleed them correctly lol

good to hear your sorted. Didn't give it a thought that the calipers could be fitted upside down on wrong sides. have to watch out for that.
Well thanks for the feedback chaps. :):D

yes pal put the rear calipers on the right way round, no the bleed nipples where at the top not the bottom bleed them and brakes where back. just got to replace the metal lines as they are starting to look alittle scabby. Drill out a snapped manifold stud, replace all the valve stem seals, manifold gaskets, turbo bearings, and seals, and head gasket, oh yeah and the timing belt. Not to much left really lmao
