Newby from a remote area / Alternator replacement

Hello LZ,
Over a year now we own a FREELANDER (LN) 1.8 i 2001. We love the car no problem so far.
But we moved from europe to a little island in the Caribbean about 9 months ago and brought our Freelander with us.
Here we off-road monthly, but we go easy cause as we live remote there is no land rover dealer closeby, and as far all parts are flown in from the Netherlands, where we bought the FL.

But last week the battery went dead, lights on but the start-engine is not kickstarting. I replaced the battery and problem solved, I thought, car started and drove again. but after 4 days car had the same problem. all dashboard lights went on and after turning off the car, the battery had no power to even pull up the windows. googled a little bit and trouble shoot it: result the Alternator is not giving full power, only 4,1V instead between 13 to 14V. Need to replace it. As I write this thread, a new alternator is on it's way to the island.
But is there a manual or a video on how to do or on tips and thricks before removing the broken alternator and placing it with a new one????
Really could need the help.

I would be inclined to download an Owners Workshop manual. Probably the best known publisher is Haynes but there are others.

Brooklands Books reprint genuine manuals are good. You have to buy the paper ones mail order, as far as I know. You can download RAVE off the net, think that is free.

off the top of my head i cannot remember which one is Freelander you would have to check and see.

thanks for redirecting me to these posts. I will dick in and download the iso hopefully will find, the instruction on how to release the tension wheel, to be able to release the belt.

ok guys, it was a interesting undertaking of removing the Alternator.
I have red the chapter of this topic in the Oval workshop manuals. I am not a mechanic. I know my way around, I am practical analyses DIY dude.
after unscrewing the two bolts directly holding the alternator, I manually pulled the belt and the tension wheel loosed a little so i could take the belt of the alternator. this was quiet easy. but I had no space to take the alternator out. i tried to take of the top-bracket of the Alternator (this was screw-bolted to the engineblock), this failed the smallest bolt was inpossible to unscrew. I removed the claxon and bended a protruding chassis plate about 1 cm. and the alternator could be pulled out.
Loved it, I will make some pics to load up in the forum. As the reaction on here helped me.

That is good, Ralph. I would say that will stand you in good stead for running landrover.
