ok its that time again:rolleyes: how do i operate the diff lock and high low range? should there be a light on the dash to say its in? what does it actually do? Sorry for the muppet questions but my musso was all lectrik so was just turn a dial for 4wd and i dont have a mnual for the disco :(

difflock can be operated in hi or low its a seperate action even when moving but not at high speed or when wheels are slipping it locks center diff in transfer box so both axles have positive drive but you can still stand still if you spin a front and rear wheel at same time

Before someone says" do a search ffs" do a search you will find all the answers
about diff lock/hi lo on here. If you look hard enough you will also find the answers to the meaning of life, thats how good the search facility is on here.

You are going to get some abuse for that question, there is a simple search function that will really help you on here!!

But for now, here are the basics.

Big lever, gear stick, little lever, difflock and high/low ratio. With me so far??

To engage low ratio, push said little lever forwards, do not do this at any speed 3-4 mph will be ok but better stopped. If you have an auto then put it in neutral or it won't go in to low box.

If you need difflock, then push said little lever sideways away from you and that locks a centre differential, so locking your front and rear axles together so to speak! (power equally front and rear) There is a light on the dash that should glow, but sometimes they dont. DO NOT engage difflock on hard surfaces, you will break something eventually!

To disengage simply pull little lever back across towards you and light should go out. If it doesn't then reverse back a couple of feet and that will sort it.

thanks fellas :) just what i wanted to know, i dont mind a bit of grief always up for a larf and a bit of banter :) sneakily doing this at work so can't trawl a lot of posts without being too obvious !!!!
cheers

You dont say what version of the Discovery you have but... many Disco 2's dont have a diff-lock lever - that may be the source of your difficulty....

They need to be fitted and the diff-lock mechainsm possibly even installed in the transfer box...

haha we had a musso a few years back and now i have a disco and the disco will only tell you when u are lock wont tell you when in low range but is quite obvious lol
