Well, I was getting a bit sick of the 'large' wheel on my disco, so have been searching about what I can do to sort it, and found that the MG ZS wheel fits. Then started to look a bit more and found the MGF wheel, which has a nicer grip for your thumbs and is full leather.

So after searching on ebay I came across this for less than £20.00 delivered...

The keen eyed will notice the MG badge right in the middle...so the way around this was to buy a universal alloy wheel centre....

Then it was a case of cutting out the MG badge....and removing the airbag...

and inserting the wheel centre...

Now I am just deciding what sort of badge to put on it - thinking along the lines of the transformers theme I have, so probably an Autobot head :D

Now fitting it was a bit of a headache at first, esp to use the wiring rotary coupler, as the back of the original wheel is sunken for this fit....

and the MG one had a lot of metal....

So after a lot of grinding back and placing a spacer on the steering part on the disco I was finally done.

Then it was a case of just wiring up the horn buttons, so I drilled a small hole into the casing for the earth and then wired the live to the existing loom and jobs done :D

Went from this...

Much better.

Admittedly I no longer have cruise control, but I never used it anyway (after spending a while fixing it when I bought her!) She is an off roader now, not a motorway cruiser ;)

And whilst I was on sprucing up the interior, I changed the rotten old leather gaiters for nice new suede ones with blue stitching....

Not a bad days work, if I do say so myself.

Cheers mate.

Yes, the wheel is smaller than the disco, reckon by around 5cm on full diameter, but will measure it properly next time i venture into my garage, but wont be tonight if i want to have a happy night with SWMBO, with spending too much time in there today!

Feels funny driving as have been driving with the dustbin lid for 6 years, but it feels so much better

I did buy another disco steering wheel with the intention of cutting the central boss out of it and mounting it to any wheel that i wanted to fit but havent got round to it yet lol, has anybody done this ?

Thought i would push my luck....

Old disco wheel is 41cm diameter

New MGF wheel is 35cm diameter

:pound:

well, have gone with these stickers for the wheel centre...

Just need to wait an age for them to land from China

Where did you get the cup holders from :)

Land rover dealer believe it or not. They are for a Disco 2 but fit just fine in a disco 1. Just make sure you tell them your disco is over 10 years old and you get a discount ;)

Put an MG TF wheel on my 300TDI as well, loads better than the original. Cut down the indicator self cancelling bit and bonded it to the back of the MG wheel. I took out the airbag and used a hole cutter to remove the MG badge and bonded in the original Horn push from the disco (altered the wiring as you said to use the MG horn buttons). Looks very original and is so much better. seems like half the effort to steer round a roundabout and definitely not too heavy at parking speed. Very worthwhile mod.

Those cup holders have gone up.....but if you get them from a LR dealer you can get some percentage off when your disco is over 10 years old....or at least you could. But you have to ask ;)

Well there could always be that regarding your legs :p
