we got our roof rack on today so things are looking good.we cant believe how fast the trip is approaching its a shame that work gets in the way.am i correct in thinking that its 4 groups of us for market harboughra

When you guys travel down to Algeciras will you have your CB's live and if so will you be on UK or EU wave bands and what channel, If EU, AM or FM.
I have been checking my route down and it looks like I might be covering the same route as you guys possibly around the same time.

About five miles I recon.

Optimistic ! When I was a lad with a fixed "rig" set up it was weather depending hard to get 5 miles with a silly 4m aerial

Depends on your set up, when we go laning it's somtimes difficult for the person at the front to hear the one at the back !

Thanks for the info, not a real problem if we don't meet up on route as we are all heading for the same camp site in Algacieras. But just in case we are in the same area at the same time.
According to Thunderpole with my set up I should be able to get just over ten miles on a good day if there aren't too many obstruction.

how about we all post the phone number of a phone we will have with us,a quick pone call will determine if we are in the same area.rather than put numbers on here we could put them on chris's morocco site?

We can sort out phone numbers at the pre-trip meeting. It may be useful to have a list of tools and equipment that each person has as it is pointless duplicating everything. Basic spares and fluids yes but not spanners and hammers etc. We must make sure that every size of metric and imperial spanner and ratchet is taken, that kind of thing.
Lyn.

Wow, this is coming together now :) anyways yes a list of tools at the meet would be good, I know I'm the only disco so I have some spare shocks and suspension parts, but the engine parts I have should be common to the other 300tdi. I did an auto gearbox oil change today, what a stink, not had it done for two years and I doubt it was done properly, also fitted the 2nd battery.

I'm going to get a Spanish speaker at work to talk to Carlos to see if we can pick the tickets on on sunday as well.

As I will not be able to attend the pre-meeting I thought I would add some info on here;
I will be taking the above socket set with me which is fairly extensive, too many items to list so I took a couple of photo's. I will also have a 32mm spaner which you use to remove the Viscos fan. I will also be carrying a couple of new track rod ball joints and a front and rear wheel bearing kit. Plus a stock of brake, gearbox, axle and engine oils. A set of jump leads and some rope suitable for towing. PLus a spare fan belt. Might add to the list nearer the time if anything else comes to mind. I will add my phone number to the wedsite Spacedog has set up. I am open to suggestions if someone suggest other items I should consider to take along.

Hope I'm not treading on anyone's toes here but trying to do my bit to help out.
I called Carlos and spoke with a female; She said they are there seven days a week so no problem picking up tickets on a Sunday. I asked her how much for a return ticket for a Land Rover, she said "one hundred and ninety euros.

Since we're the only p38, our spares list is:
full set of brake calipers
track rod ends
drag link bar
set of rad hoses
brake pads - full set
fan belt
front and rear hubs, one of each
bag of fuses and relays and a big bag of tool.

Also, anyone taking PMR's, if so we could also have them turned on and tuned into a channel.

Might sound daft, but what about a call sign for the trip, specially if we're romping through spain etc trying to find someone on the CB.

Cheers

Mine are;

Halfords socket set, axle stands, hub spanner, breaker bar, blow torch and gas, various cabling parts, fuses, solder, wheel bearing and track rod ends, jack (not high lift), a hammer MC type, aux bet, hoses, all fluids, fuses, grease, spare shocks. break pads, copper grease, lock tight, I also might be able to borrow a steering bar thingy. A full service kit.

We also have 2x 20ltr Jerry cans for fuel and 2x25ltr water cans as well as camping gear.

10 meter recovery strap as well.

I have 3xPBR's and I'll also have my CB, just in case someone want to go for a walk with a radio. And a SW radio, I hate missing the football if I can get it.

A cuddly toy.

Probably overkill but what the hell.

Call sign Spacedog I should have another one by the time we go as well, just need to pass the test.

Almost ready now.
