looking for an engine

does any one have a cheap td5 2002
i fear mine may have died
it over ran on oil after turbo broke, fitted new turbo , gaskets , oil filters , oil cleared ecu faults had trouble starting,started ran very rough cylinder check on lap top showed no 2 had no out put and the others 2 were overworking and 2 under working think maybe piston melted or something worse , however there is no obvious mechanical noises or rattles and after the oil in the exhaust sytem had burnt off no smoke from exhaust but no power am guessing due to cylinder being down , only drove round the block and ran outside house for hour or so for a few days now it wont start , turns and tries but wont tick over .......any advice would be massivly appreciated

There's no such thing as a cheap TD5 engine. Expect to pay upto £2k for a used one from a breakers but make sure you know what to look for before parting with your cash.

A new one will be as rare as hens teeth for much less than £5k. If you buy a new one from LR then you're looking at £10k or more and they are on back order for more than 9 months. I picked up a fully dressed new one from these guys for £3800 but I was in the right place at the right time.

yeah that what i feared , was thinking maybe get a replacement then recon mine to reimburse the coffers, looks like ill be stripping and rebuilding mine just means longer time not getting use out of my disco,,

You wont know whats wrong with yours until you strip it down. The bottom ends on the TD5 are virtually indestructable so long as they dont run dry. Pistons are not a lot more expensive than normal ones but anything to do with the heads is when it gets painful.

I think rebuilding yours engine will cose not more then 1.8k pounds.

If cylinders are damaged, you can buy kit from kolbenshmidt (not sure that i wrote it correctly) It will cost you maybe 500-600 pounds. it will include 5 pistons, rings, and 5 cylinder liners.

thanks guys .. it did run dry as the turbo pushed oil through into intake and so the engine ran until no oil left even with the key out of ignition, it hasnt seized as i said still runs but ont well enough to pull its own weight,

There's a few TD5 engines on fleabay at the moment for around the £500 mark. Only problem is you wont know their history. There's a Disco one that the seller says has only done 45k miles which might be worth a look.
