Hi Lee,

Far be it from me to tell you what not to spend your dosh on - but I might be inclined to just hold on a moment for some of the items on your list.

I can understand your exitement and how you want to get on with fixing the Freelander the way you want it, asap.

First spotlights - I have 2 pairs of Hella driving lamps and a pair of Hella fogs , sitting on the garage shelf from my previous Freelander. I've had this HSE for nearly 8 years and have not yet seen the need to fit any of them.

Unless you want them just to look pretty (or more 'workman-like) don't waste your money. Instead fit a full set of Osram Nightbreakers which will flood-light the road ahead for £12.95 a pair. If that's still enough light then get extra lamps if you feel you need them.

The Australian made EGR bonnet guard is the one I chose after a fair bit of research - it fits securely without the need for any extra holes in the bonnet, and really does keep the screen clearer of flies and spray.

Wheels and tyres - unless you are really going to be ambitious in the off-roading - you may not really need big knobbly tyres. I get a fair bit of satisfaction from going places that other folks seem to need bigger vehicles and more aggressive tyres to get to.

I have a garage full of alternative wheels and tyres for my 2 main vehicles most of which if I'm honest are surplus to requirements (don't tell Mrs Singvogel though), and what I would suggest is a set of Summer road tyres and a set of 4X4 all season tyres (not A/T) for the Winter. I have 8 identical wheels with the same size tyres fitted to all of them (235/55 17) - I just bought more wheels identical to the ones that came on the car.

So I have a set of 4 high performance (ContiSportContact2) sports tyres for longer journeys in Summer, and 4 all-season (Conti4X4Contacts)for Winter and off-roading/green-lanes.

I aint been stuck yet and I live a mile off-road up a track in Aberdeenshire where we get more than our share of snow to play in every Winter. ;)

Missing from the list: I carry a load of kit when I go abroad and have a roof box - so I fitted a set of the tapered side rails which make access to the box much easier, as well as keep the mud down to the lower half of the doors - the rubber door strip (standard on an HSE) helps too.

I also would suggest you check out the clip on EGR headlight protectors for the front (better protection against stones and no need for drilling holes like the LR type) and the LR rear light protectors which fit using existing screws.

I'm sure you will get loads of alternative suggestions.

Singvogel.

Bank Loan!!!!

Just kidding mate,

You have covered just about everything,,,

Except
Oil & Filter
Gearbox fluid change
VCU/IRD Check (I think thats correct)

The list is probably longer but thats all I can think of so far..

Good Luck,,enjoy the Off Roading..

Indi's right, especially about the gearbix oil which is very often overlooked. I just did mine and the difference is utterly staggering, it's a totally different car now!

I' ve been looking around for AT tyres in 225/55 size for your 17" wheels and I can't find a sausage! Unless I'm missing something, you best get some 16" alloys unless you want to stick with road tyres :). Someone will bite your arm off for 17" alloys and would probably part exchange some 16" alloys for them. You have to have 50 posts for selling but I'm not sure about swapping, PM one of the mods and ask nicely. Preferably one of the Freelander driving mods....Ming and Porky [Eeze er furra bred] perhaps.

WL, you have discovered why I sold my Synchrones and changed all my tyres to 235/55 17s - more choice - there are not many 225s to choose from.

Singvogel.

thanks for all you input i have noticed a few people who have had different spots on there cars!

was looking at these lights are they any good?

Land Rover freelander 1 facelift front bumper spot/driving light/lamp pod kit | eBay

i may be interested in swapping my wheels for same 16" ones as long as there in mint condition!

maybe even get some black steel rims?

Lots of people have fitted those and they seem fine but they look naff without the nudge bar IMHO.

Mine came with those fitted, they come on with the high beam (or not if you turn them off via the switch on the dash) and very effective.

As you say WLJayne, they do look a bit naff just stuck on the front and look like they could be easily knocked off…

I'll just have to get myself a nudge bar…

…but got to attend to the coolant leak first!

You can pick up nudge bars in black or grey from ebay for about £30-£40 :).
