I have had my freelander for about 9 months and dont need to drive very often. But today when I pressed the clutch down it seemed very very easy to press and the biting point was at the bottom of the travel.
I cant remember if this is normal, can you tell me if it is? Its a 1999 TD4.

Thanks

Sounds like a hydraulic problem, when you pump it a few times does it firm up. Might need a bleed

Thanks The Mad Hat Man, I have had a search and seen lots of posts about clutch pedal disconnecting from master cyl, clutches slipping, clutches not disengaging etc. But my clutch seems to be working fine it just seems to be biting low and very light. It might be that I have just forgotten where the bite point is and how light the clutch is.

So if anyone with a TD4 can tell me if their clutch bites at the bottom of its travel and is light that would be a big help.

Thanks for your reply. It doesn't make any difference if I pump the clutch.

Is there any mechanical adjustment on the actuator rods at all either at the pedal or clutch end of the hydraulic system?

I am not trying to spam. I do genuinely have a 1999 3 door hard back TD4. If any of the mods would like me to alter my signature then I am happy to do so.

All my postings are genuine, I have only had the freelander about 9 months and read loads on this forum before and after my purchase.

As I said if I am breaking any rules or the mods would like me to change sig am more than happy to do so.

...... just thought that so many links in one sig was over doing it a bit

and you still bought it ........... sigh

Yes, still bought. Mainly because the main problem seem to be IRD and VCU which wile they are a pain can be sorted out for about £600 each in parts. I am happy and capable of fixing most things and this forum has some very good advice.

The main alternative was a x-trail and from the x-trail forums so many people had turbos going and then the engine consumes the oil and it kills the engine. They also had ecu problems so they would both be big bills.

I am happy with the freelander, well I am now I have a RoverRon box :) I used to have a chipped Volvo 850T5 so wanted a bit more go in the freelander than it had when I bought it.

To be honest main reason for the freelander was it height!! Yes I know its not very tall but it just gives me a bit better view when I try and get out of my driveway as cars park very close either side of the driveway. It also needed to be quite narrow as my drive is very narrow and has a bend in it. I have never seen a salesman go so white as when he saw what I meant when I said that my driveway was narrow! Before was so cocky and said yes it will fit no problem when we were out on a test drive he suggested we try it :D. It did fit but he was very nervous.
That and wanting a diesel with a cam chain not a belt.
Overall I think the freelander has less faults than most.

Hi and welcome!
You sure it's a TD4 and not a L-series ? It is a 1999 model?

Anybody know what year they replaced the L-series with TD4?

The reason for asking is I've got a 1999 L-series 5dr and it's doing the same thing... :(

Sorry my fault its a 2001.

The problem got worse today, very difficult to engage gears. Got it back on drive and checked clutch fluid level. It was low very low, but I dont think thats thereal problem. Topped resevoir back up and will try and bleed it sometime over the next few days. But I think its a slave cylinder problem.
