led bulbs

I bought some LEDS for the glovebox and interior light and sidelights. Once they arrive, I've fitted and if I'm happy I'll post the links etc. Should be here tomorrow :)

Ta, Mark

I have recently fitted 1.5 watt Superlux LED's to my sidelights, very bright and very white! Also have a blue LED for front interior light fitted.

Anybody know what the bulb types are for a 97, 300tdi defender ?
I've been tempted by the sidelights and the interior light ones but wasn't sure about bulbs and the sellers weren't much use !
Cheers
Parky

You would have to pop the sidelight bulbs out to double check and measure the interior bulb length

But after a quick check I think the sidelights are these Xtec R5W 245 High Power LEDs Sidelight Bulbs - White | eBay

And I think the interior ones are these 2X Dome 3 SMD LED Bulb Light Interior Festoon Lamp 36mm | eBay

Your very welcome mate, look forward to seeing the pics :)

Snatch great film :D

Same with your gif, love the show !

do you have any knowledge about LED spotlights ?
Saw a pair on fleabay for £100, meant to last 10x as long as halogen, and are the equivalent to something like 135w, but i asked about them and the reply said the range was 80ft, surely they meant 80m at least ?
Cheers

Hi folks.
As promised here are the results of my 2 different types of LED side lights.
The one on the left is composed of 6 separate wire ended LED's soldered to a small circular PCB. They are wired as 2 sets in parallel, of 3 each in series and have a 120r resistor to drop remaining voltage. One of the first 2 I received was faulty, and 3 of the LED's kept going out. I contacted the supplier and he immediately sent me 2 new ones f.o.c. A Good service.

The other type are composed of 20 SMT LED's on 5 separate PCB's, I didn't disassemble one of these as they were both OK so can't detail much of their construction. Suffice to say though, they are (imho) more professionally constructed and therefor likely to be less prone to failure. Having said that I did have to lengthen one of the wire tails on each, as they were too short and at first had intermittent contact. As for performance, I think the photo's speak for themselves.
Hope you find this little review useful.
Andy.

Tried both a 9 led and 20 led SMT types in ours. The 20 led SMT one is definitely better made and brighter. (9 led has bigger SMT leds but only similar light output for each one)
Had them in a month now and no problems.
You may need to rotate the holder when led is fitted to get best position in reflector for max output. :)

here we go, comparison of before and after

Hi Parky

Sorry forget to check the thread

Looking good mate, does the interior one give you more light ?
I find mine are brighter (the old bulbs were on the way out anyhow) but its the crispness of the light they emit

The front ones look better than mine, even in the daylight they look like mini spots lamps :D

As for the LED spotlamps, teddywood1 is right, their not brill at distance more of close range kind of thing and come to that don't bother with the LED headlight bulbs either they have the same problem.

At the moment i'm looking at upgrading my H4's

Cheers Andy that was interesting i did think about the 20 LED ones myself but weren't sure of the length and didn't want them to close to my headlight bulbs in case of melting

Yeh I do think it seems better inside, the light also seems to reflect better into the corners, not sure if that's my imagination or not !

No point in going for spotlights that don't give me any better range then since that's what i'm wanting for the country roads, unless I want to get them and another set and end up looking a bit like this

...ok I would kind of like that, but don't have the cash !
Looks like I will have to settle for some wipacs then

If you were looking for a roof mounted flood light for hitching up a tow rope or working out the back then LED would be ideal, i've got a set of these on the front (as you may see in the pics before!) Wipac Pair Of 4x4 Off Road Driving Spot Lights Lamps 8" 100w Brand New Boxed | eBay

Or if you want so real power you could always do this

Yeh I saw that clip, going a little bit OTT there !
Was looking at Wipacs, seem decent quality for the price.
Do you have these wired up to your main beam then all the time, wasn't sure what it's like with the law since your only meant to have 55w isn't it ?
And how long do they last ?
I got the impression that LEDs where probs best for that sort of job, but i'm looking for better lighting for going along country roads and poorly lit carriageways, is that why you got yours ?
Cheers
