i'v fixed the engine, floors, rear tub and tailgate, lights (for now), wiper motors and indicator switch. now i want to get at the brakes and the lug nuts are too tight, so tight infact one thread has been strpiied completely! Have tried an extended torque wrench, WD40 and heat. dont have an air torque wrench handy. any ideas?

jack

ps. does anyone have, or know of, a series 2 88 exhaust, mudguards, wiring loom and passenger door top?

pardon my ignorance, but what are lug nuts otherwise known as?

Wheel nuts.

It all makes sense if you substitute the proper terminology for the bastardised american drivel.

'now i want to get at the brakes and the wheel nuts (lug nuts) are too tight,'

For the nuts that aren't seized try a 3/4" socket, breaker bar and length of scaffold pipe. Then keep it in the landy with a bottle jack for punctures.

never heard the terminology. a lug nut to me is a square nut held in a cage, usually holding stuff like wings to bulkhead or electronic stuff in 19 inch comms racks. (strangely sometimes called cagenuts....)

back to op's problem then, a bigger socket and bar then. (3/4 drive stuff)
a few impacts from a sledgehammer axially on the stud before turning it sometimes helps but dont pein the end over.

edit, and cheers for the translation!

thanks guys, yes i mean wheel nuts, got them off now with the help of a bit of scaffolding on the torque wrench, a tow rope and a tractor (along with lots of yelling "be gentle!" at the driver. now also need a new front left hub and brake assembley as there is some old damage to that.

Thanks Mathewpink but iv been given a full exhaust and fixings by a bloke down the pub who bought one for an 88 2.25l petrol instead of one that fits his 109 SIII 200tdi! cant believe my luck. thanks anyway
