I have a Freelander 1 1.8 petrol. When bought all appeared fine with the three amigos, however heavy braking on a damp surface revealed that all was not as it seemed! Further investigation revealed that the lights had been blanked with bits of foam jammed into them to allow it pass an MOT.

Several sessions later, both front sensors replaced and both front hubs as the reluctor rings were gone, and tow of the three amigos were now working correctly (Yaaaay!)

The HDC light however is still on constantly.

I have a generic code reader that will read and reset the engine fault codes, but does not seem to do the brake ones, is there a way of resetting these codes without using an OBDII reader? - most cars I have worked on have a system of switching ignition on and off again, foot on and off brake pedal or some similar sequence, but I can't find one for the Freelander.

Otherwise, what are the likely culprits for just the HDC light to stay on?

On mine I found the yellow HDC bulb had been taken out ...I put one in and it stayed lit constantly ...I just took it to my local garage and he plugged in his 'snap on' diagnostic, he was puzzled and said there are no codes stored but then he just did a reset anyway and the light has stayed off ever since...suppose sometimes thats all it needs.

That is what I am hoping for (although mine has the LED rather than a bulb) - I was hoping not to have to take to a garage for a code reset. But if I have to I will go that way.

Check for broken switch wires under the gear lever gaiter ..do a search, there are a few more causes...good luck.
