Ok chaps - update;
AT tyres fitted
KCC prow permit received (well done KCC - turned around in a week!)
VCU renewing 23rd.

Took down a few local green lanes this weekend - Freddie seemed at home! Didn’t push it too far as was on my own and it was very wet

Think some might still be closed with temporary tros.

I’ll need a couple weeks to get a few niggles on my old gel sorted , what month are we thinking about heading out?

Well, as Lynall rightly says, some lanes are closed with a TRO until end of April, so still a month and half.
I’d like to do something before then if possible, but obviously need it to be a bit drier to prevent too much damage (to the lane).

Do you all fancy doing something earlier, or is the preference to wait until May?

Also - what week day works best for you all? Obviously we could do a weekend, but they tend to be busier. I could do mid week with notice - I’ll happily booked a day off for this!

Lastly - comms? Do you guys have any (I read that a lot of the regular lanies use CBs to maintain contact/advice). There are a LOT of things that I would happily go back to the 80’s for, but CB wouldn’t be at the top of the list! I CAN however see their brilliant use for this, so would happily fit one of there are others using them?

You can get 3 PMR radios instead of CBs. I do have a CB turned on incase of other groups in the area using a track that’s single wide.

a good thing this time of year is to get the maps out,plan a route & walk/mountain bike these to see if they safe for motors. I parked my 110 on a lane near Leeds castle & it had slipped while I went for a stroll.:oops:

it’s been over 30years since I have green laned round Kent. It used to be a nice place but lanes have closed

I was thinking of the hand helds - obvious advantage when out of the vehicle and no vehicle power required.
Disadvantage of no comms with other groups and need as many of them as in the group.

yes, it’s a bugger when your vehicle goes and plays on its own when your out and not looking o_O

sounds like you need to join in on this day out hopefully some of the lanes you drove back then are still good and enjoyable now

Saturdays are good for me, could meet up late morning grab a coffee and bacon roll somewhere then head out hopefully lynall can suggest somewhere

I am on 6 days this week, but 5 days rest of month, Saturday is best for me, but am flexible as you are right about busy weekends, though I dont see many off road motors that are either going to play or have been playing at all.
All the lanes around bluebell hill area are open to all, its only when you start to venture more down your way that you come across the Tros.
As for comms you dont really need them, keep reasonably close and theres no issues, last car goes missing, then go back and find them, but as you will find 90 percent of the lanes are what me and my mate used to call nissan micra lanes, ie normal cars can drive them when dry.

You can always google/youtube 7 hour mile!

Would you know it, on bluebell hill is a cafe called Mickies diner, handy or what?

@lynall ok - I can learn quickly!!!

Mickies is the one in the shell garage, going up bluebell, right? Sounds like that’s the place to meet for coffee then!

Local to me this Saturday morning…

We do a fair few Green Lane trips and its nice to have a CB to keep in contact with your group but not needed at all. As for other groups, in ten years I can count on one hand how many times we have bumped into another group of 4x4s using any lanes, motorbikes, well that's another story!
Have fun.
