I've been posting on here about a few probs I've had since the purchase of my Disco. Everyone has been great with great advice. The worry I had was as the car had no MOT when I bought it I could not road test it, so any big problems I was only going to find out on the way to the testers.
Turns out she drove perfect. All the jobs I'd done worked fine and it flew through its MOT. The problems came when I tried to leave the test station. It wouldn't start. The engine turned over really fast but didn't fire. After a couple of mins it fired up. Drove away no problem and headed home. Then just before I got home it died whilst I was driving. So I just managed to get off the main road and again upon trying to start it, it just turned over fast. So I left it a couple of mins tried starting it again and give it some throttle and it fired up again. So me being me turned it off and tried again whilst I was sat on the side of the road again and it fired up on the button. So I hastily got home. Once home I turned it off and went in for a cuppa. Came back out to move the disco and again just turned over fast with no firing up until I give it some throttle. Then parked up and tried again and it was on the button. Any ideas what's going on here? I can't hear the pump, the other thing is it's been stood a while before I bought it and the fuel filter looks like it came off the Titanic so I have a service kit so that is next to do.
Also just to ruin my day I now also have a pool of some fluid under the auto gear box. It never rains but it pours.

isnt the FPR leaking? ... that might give you starting/running issues and contaminate the crank sensor too to make it even worst

sounds like a fuel issue, either bad filter or air leak allowing fuel system to lose its prime
Is there any reason it turns over faster. Could it be the pump as last week when it was on the drive and I was starting it as I turned the ignition on the pump was making a bit of a funny sound.

a clogged fuel filter can make the pump noisy so replace it ASAP, the FPR = fuel pressure regulator, it's where the 5'th glow plug should be under the inlet manifold if it's leaking bad it can contaminate the crank sesnor and the starter

Right. That has been changed very recently as its nice and shinny. I will change the fuel filter tomorrow and see what that does. Thanks.

remove switch or bung out of bottom of filter ,place a container under it and watch flow of diesel when ignition is switched on it should pour out in a smooth stream if it doesnt remove pump and check screens etc

Thanks james. I will check that before I change the filter. I'll update tomorrow

Just an update. I decided to change the injector seals which I must say was a really easy job, and loan be hold it starts and runs like a dream. Thanks for all your input and suggestions. :)
