I believe I may have an overheating caused by IRD (gets boody hot). K series can tick over and be below half on gauge for 1 1/2 hrs. Take it long run 30 miles and it will boil over. I am asking if anyone has had a similar prob caused by VCU overheating IRD/coolant. Can this be confirmed by removing rear prop. Bri

why not bypass the ird by joining the cooling pipes, does the ird need oil?, is it noisy?

No its not noisy, was really hot after run 30 mile and was about to belch coolant out of exp bottle. I was getting steam coming from it IRD when bleeding heater pipe ( REALLY HOT TO TOUCH). I do suspect VCU buggered after driving it, relating to car can run 1 1/2 hrs on tick over and reving without boiling over ( ird was a lot cooler then).
I will check level of oil though. Bri

If yer think the vcu is fecked, then try the test in the video below.

IRD does get very very hot! too hot to touch. that's why you put expensive high temp/pressure oil in them and also why they need the extra cooling plate!

haven't read a spec on average operating temp anywhere though..can take my to manually if you want to compare?
