Aye I agree with James... At 17 I was driving a tourist bus in the Aussie outback... Not sure how it should be regulated, but some people can be trusted with larger vehicles... Some can not. Shame really

the thing now is just short term profit ,which has led to a society most cant afford, which govt props up .what is called free market isnt ,so why not force the market to give us what we need

If you live on a farm why not try your local NFU branch rep? Their insurance is good and it may be you can add it to whatever else you may have for machinery etc. Either way worth a call. Good luck.

i doubt it apart from profits ,education is needed if you want to try and alter young "im indestuctible attitude "

I think that's part of growing up to be honest. With the best will in the world, I don't think it's possible to make some youngsters appreciate how dangerous the roads are. Experience is what teaches us in life, for some people that's just the way it is.

When I was 17 i got a job as a forester and the series 3 cost about £300 notes for everything. The insurance was happy cos I was in the trade that used those vehicles. That was about 1993.

Now it's a ****-take.

Did you mark it down for just you to drive? I know if you add older drivers (say your dad) as named drivers it should bring the quote down, also fully comp instead of TPFT as again they view it you're more "caring" about your vehicle. I know when I was 17 my mate had a V8 90 insured for a few hundred quid, it's amazing how the insurance companies change views on certain vehicles. What about Footman James, i know specialise in older vehicles?

see if possible your dad can transfer some of their no claims bonus onto your insurance which is what happened with me.

Or put one of your parents on as main driver and you as second driver.

Man I love being in my late 30's, three kids, home owner, no accidents, no fines and fully comp insurance for 100 quid......hahahaha SUCKERS

Hi mate. In 17 and driving a 1986 defender 90 on my own policy and is 2800 quid with "insure2drive" cheapest out there honest. Best advice is to get any defender under 1991 I think as that is the cheap price brand. Get your parents as named drivers and will take 300 odd quid off. Only need tpft anyway no point fully comp to exspensive! Or do what my mate has done, get an early chassi&log book like 1984/86 and put a new td5 lump in and get it all legit. Much much cheaper than insuring a new ish td5. Good luck!

£2800 for insurance! That's insane. I'm 21 and my Series 3 cost me ~£350 to insure with Lancaster.

great help! Thankyou! Managed to get it down to £3100

Have you tried classic car insurance? They often limit the millage, but for me to insure my 1985 90 is only £90 fully comp with 4000 mile limit... Granted I'm not 17 any more, but it was cheaper than if I went for normal cover. A lot of the comparison sites have a classic car section in the same way as for a van. Google it - it's with a try.

Did I read right that you're on a farm? A mate got his series on an agricultural policy which was cheap as chips...

was speaking to someone last night about car insurance they are with age uk (age concern basically) apparently you dont have to be a old...er person to join they will take anyone they pay £300 for their fully comp insurance. may be worth a shot. i know when i first started driving i was on sheilas wheels and i am not a sheila last time i checked lol

Don't do this, it is called fronting and illegal, if you cannot prove / substantiate that one of the parents is them main driver, then you run the risk of having your policy declared void.

Just out of interest, we ran some costs through for my son (18 years) and it was cheaper to have him as the policy holder with my wife and I as named drivers, rather than one of us holding the policy with him as a named driver. When I queried it with the insurance company, they do it to discourage fronting, so they said.

I am 22 and have 3 named drivers on my policy and that dropped my insurance from 1200 to 570. I know serveral people with landrovers who get commercial landrovers because in the insurance companies eyes there is less chance of them doing **** laps round the town with music blaring out and a car full of 15 year old girls.
